We left NY on a very cold day. My son (10) was just getting over a viral infection and was on all kinds of antibiotics, medication, etc. My daughter (12) on the way to the airport informs me that she was not feeling well. All I could think of was how awful it was going to be will everyone sick. I had packed a carry on bag with anything and everything: Anti-biotics, Tylenol cold & flu, tylenol, advil, chloraseptic, cough drops, benadryl, asthma medication, Imodium, PeptoBismol, tea, bandaids, bacitracin, wound desinfectant and my prescribed medication. I was just imagining the look on the airport security when my bag got put thru the X-ray machine and all those little bottles popped up. Imagine what they thought, what a bunch of hypochondriacs.
To makes matter worse, my hand was acting up from a previous injury and was presently in a splint. I knew that I would have to be checked and I told them immediately about the splint and every other part that I have in my body that was not mine. Did I beep, I practically had to strip naked and what really bothered me the most was that they made me take the splint off, when I could barely move my hand and proceeded to twist and squeeze it every which way. Once I passed that stage, we were ready to proceed to the gate and began boarding, which was uneventful from that point on.
We board the plane and we are separated, being seated in the last row of the plane. Right next to the bathrooms. How convenient, in case we got really sick. As we were seating down and waiting for everyone else to find their seats, the couple that was sitting in front of us proceeded to make their way down the aisle with their three kids. Well, all of a sudden, the little girl puts her hands up to her mouth and before anyone could react she sprayed our entire section with vomit. Dad is now sweating and apologizing profusely, the kid is crying and mom is almost hysterical. Thank goodness for two of the nices AA flight attendants. They immediately came to the rescue with plenty of bags and notified the captain, who remained at the gate. Cleaning crews came in and proceeded to clean the seats, belts and floor. After a 45 minute delay, we were on our way to Disney. The pilot informed us that since we were delayed, he was going to "put the metal to the pedal" and get us there as quickly as possible and he kept his word. We arrived on time! However, little passenger spent the whole time throwing up and our area smelled awful.
We got to our gate and began to disembark, when our DD informed us that she had to find a bathroom because it was now her turn to throw up. After spending our whole flight watching that little girl throw up, I really did not want to watch her throw up, so I directed her to the nearest bathroom. My DH, who throws up when he hears someone throw up, took our DS and informed me that he was heading to the baggage area and not to rush, since I had to meet my aunt at her gate, as she was arriving from a flight in Puerto Rico.
DD made it back and now she is pale and informs me that she has an earache, a sore throat and feels hot. Great - she is burning up. My aunt arrives and we head to the baggage area (same as ours) and locate my DH, DS and our Tiffany Town driver.
We proceeded to get in the town car and I had approached our driver and told her not to mention our destination, since it was a surprise for the kids. They had been told that we were doing ASSsports (which they hate) and not AKL.
In a quiet mood, waiting for DD to start throwing up any minute we began our trip to Disney. The kids were not paying too much attention until we pulled up to the entrance and they saw a sign that said, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and they asked what we were doing there. We informed them that we were picking someone up. It wasn't until the car pulled up to the front of the hotel and the doormen came running up to the car to welcome us and unload the bags that they realized we were staying there.
We proceeded to check in and were in line (9:00PM) when my DD turned to me and said, "Oh boy, its coming out" and proceeded to throw up all over the lobby and on her way to the bathroom. What a perfect entrance. Totally diminished the wonderful African smells I was geared to smell as we made our grand entrance.
We checked in and proceeded to our room, where my magical medicinal bag came out. Time to take anything and everything under the sun to feel better. I got a fridge because of the medicine (no charge) and we proceeded to go down to Mara's and get something to eat, while DD sort of hung around.
After a quick meal, it was time to relax and go to sleep.
