Our cruise -

We were supposed to be going on the Disney Magic from Sat. Aug 28th – Sat. Sept. 4th for my DH (Adam) and my (Melanie)’s first ever cruise and first ever vacation without our children. This was a huge step for us! We had been following the Frances news and figured we would have a change in itinerary once onboard. And imagine my surprise when we were extended the extra days not to mention my worry as we live in FL and just had Charley hit our area. BUT we were on the Magic finally after a year of planning!!!! I hope not to bore you with too many details from a first time cruiser but hope you enjoy the report since we LOVED the vacation!!!!

First – thanks to everyone on the boards that made the experience all the better!

And our first day began as follows…

We live in Southwest Florida so our trip across the state to Port Canaveral began VERY early leaving at 5:15am and arriving after a breakfast stop at the port at 10:30am. To see the ship as we pulled into the terminal was amazing! Adam and I were so excited!!! We pulled up and unloaded the luggage and me while Adam went and parked the car and met me inside. We are notorious for over packing even though I tried not to we did – 4 check in suitcases ( 2 large and 2 small) and 3 carry on bags (one was a laptop so does that count???). Later the over packing will prove to be lucky due to our extension!

Adam and I got in line to check in – I was so nervous about this for some reason thinking I would have some kind of incorrect documentation or something but all was fine and check in took about 10 minutes tops. We looked around the terminal and marveled at the ship from the overlook deck as well as the model. The line was rather long to board so we sat and waited. Recognized my first fellow DISer from our cruise thread (Bobby!) while waiting and got in line. The long line moved quite fast! And there it was finally – the Mickey statue, the beautiful chandelier, the lobby, the cast members waving hello! It was beautiful!!!!!!!!!!

Adam and I booked the REAS package so our ressies for Palo dinner & brunch and spa couples massage were done and our excursions were all booked at 60days so we had nothing to do but relax and enjoy! We headed to Topsiders for lunch. After lunch we checked out decks 9 and 10 before going down to deck 2 to find our room. Rooms were ready at 1:30pm. Waiting on the door to our room were the DIS magnets made by Bobby and family to welcome us! (THANKS AGAIN!!!) We were in room 2092 (a listed NOISY room – not too sure why???) Our room Hostess was Marilyn. She was lovely!!! Our REAS gift package was waiting on the bed for us as well as our excursion tickets, ressie confirmations, etc After checking out the room we decided to explore the ship, only to find two bags waiting in the hall. So after unpacking them we headed off to look around some more. Back to the room the rest of the bags had arrived by about 3pm so we finished unpacking and got ready for the lifeboat drill.

Looking absolutely LOVELY in those life jackets we headed to our station. The captain at that point announced our change in itinerary due to Frances. We would be skipping Key West on Sunday and heading to Castaway Cay instead then the normal schedule Monday at Sea, Tuesday Grand Cayman, Wednesday Cozumel then to Costa Maya on Thursday and a Day at Sea Friday before heading back to Port Canaveral on Saturday (HOPEFULLY!!) but there was a chance of further itinerary changes and the promise to be kept informed.

After the 15min lifeboat drill we returned jackets and headed to the Promenade Lounge for our DIS meet which was great! It was nice to finally put some faces with names. We headed off to the Sailaway Party and enjoyed watching the Magic leave Port Canaveral. We had late seating at dinner so first was the show after cleaning up and dressing we enjoyed the show and thought the two cabaret acts were fabulous and funny! Our rotation was APL so our first night was in Animator’s Palate and our serving team was Nadege from France Head Server, Hemant from India Server and Jessie from Philippines Asst Server. They were WONDERFUL!!!! We sat at a table of 4 seated with a gentleman and his 8 year old son traveling from Seattle. They were very easy to talk with and we enjoyed their company.

Being our first time out in awhile without the kids we headed off the first night to Rockin Bar D (and spent many nights there). We did enjoy the Charles Marshall band – they are awesome! - in Rockin Bar D on almost every night of the cruise!!! Match Your Mate was on our first night and was a cute show. The cruise staff really is wonderful to watch. Dazzler was our host and kept things going between the couples.

After the long first day and night we hit the hay with the rocking of the magic to put us to sleep!!!!

Will follow up with part 2 soon as I get things in some kind of order here again!!! :)

Thx for your report, keep 'em coming!!

We're scheduled to cruise without the kids on the 9/11 Magic. We, too, live in Florida, so we are hesitant to go with Ivan on the way. I am so interested to read more about how you handled the trip during Frances. Sounds like you had a Magical time...I'm so glad. It gives me hope that I will actually get on the ship Saturday. Thanks. I look forward to reading more.
