ended up in a disgusting stagnate pond. Ewwwwwww.
We just built a huge 75 foot long pen ( pretty good width wise as well). Anyhow we have a gate on both ends and my ds left the back gate open and we didn't realize it. Anyhow, our golden retreiver Sammie and our new puppy Koda took off and below our house there is a pond...now, not a pond you swim in. Its pretty much a pond for wildlife (there are a few fish, 2 beavers, ducks that stop and take a swim break on their way back north, some turtles.....). It is muddy, and icky. These two decided it was a great place for a swim!!! Once we realized the back gate was open we called for them and they came running up from the pond...covered in mud and looking just as happy as can be!
They weren't too happy after that...they had to have baths to take off the pond scum. I cleaned my bathtub 3 x to get all of the crap off from it. I guess that was their adventure for the day :rotfl: Our golden has taken the lead and is showing the puppy the ropes around here....

Gotta love the smell of dog fresh from the swamp

The two dogs we had when i was growing up were Famous for
doing that YUCK!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yes....they smelled so bad!!!! Where I was growing up, it was by a river, so when our dogs went swimming, it wasn't like that...nice fresh water....not icky gross pond scum.

Lol...I don't know how to deal with that. I am housesitting for some friends who have a Newfoundland and a border collie. They live near a beautiful clear river...I mean it actually runs through their land. The dogs LOVE to go in the water. They smell fine, but the river sand they track in is ridiculous. I sweep here three times a day and its unreal. I am looking forward to going home to my nice neat clean cat who would shudder at the thought of getting all dirty :teeth: .

Our Golden and hound did this last week....golden found a rotten goose egg. They ate it....both ended up with Giardia (think Mexican bad water disease). What a mess! Lucky we didn't end up with it as it is contagious to humans, as well. Good news- the swamp/diarrhea smell was so overwhelming the vet gave the golden a FREE bath!

Five days of antibiotics later, no worse for the wear! But I swear if they get near those ponds again................................!

One of my dogs is a golden mix,and he is OBSESSED with the marsh behind my house. I have spent $600 to re-fortify the fence, but he still digs out. I don't let him out by himself anymore, because he will go. He loves to swim in the little creek and play in the pluff mud........ewwwwwww.

LOL, everytime I put them in the pen they go to the edge of the pen and look at the pond, then look at me, lol. It's almost like they are saying, "Please????????". No thank you! Koda decided to run around the tree in the pen about 20 times in a row. Sammie tried to lift the lock off the door with his nose, but dh put a bungee cord around the door and the fence, so he was able to lift the lock with his nose, but still stuck in the pen....I've got a dog that knows how to pick locks, lol. Crazy doggies :dog2: :dog:
We need to purchase a better lock for the door...
