Ok, this is my first attempt at a trip report, so I hope I do it justice!

Cast: Myself--40-y-o mom who's been to Disney 3 other times, once when it first opened, once in college and in 2000 (oh, and Disneyland once)

Hubby--soon to be 40-y-o soldier who, thanks to Disney's military salute offer, first brought up the idea of going back (his first and only trip was in 2000)

DD--8-y-o who, of course, thinks she is a princess (and she is!).

We set off from northern VA in our trusty Subaru the morning of January 25, wondering why in the heck we had chosen to drive instead of fly (we didn't want a firm commitment to this trip in case hubby was deployed). Before we left, I tried calling WDW-DINE at 7:05, to see if we could luck out on last minute Cindy's castle ressies. To my amazement (and the amazement of the woman who was helping me) I was able to get 8 am ressies on Sunday, the morning after our arrival!

We had told our DD that we were heading to Hilton Head for the week. While in the car, we presented her with Disney Dollars to spend at Hilton Head...she looked at us with a puzzled expression, then we suggested that since Hilton Head may not accept Disney Dollars, perhaps we should go to Disney instead.

At that, DD started to.....CRY!!!! She had become so set on vacationing at Hilton Head (even though she didn't want to go at first) and was disappointed at going to Disney!!! Fortunately, that only lasted a few miles before reality set in!

We did spend the night at Hilton Head after a 9 hour drive. The next morning, we set off for Shades of Green -- about 4 or 5 hours away. We arrived in mid afternoon, settled into our third floor room overlooking the fairways, had a quick lunch at the Evergreens (mmmm, those half-foot of onion rings were to die for) and an hour to play in the pool before dinner at Ohanas. We were able to get a window table for a spectacular view of the MK fireworks. After enjoying delicious grilled shrimp, chicken, steak and pork tenderloin, and of course the fresh pineapple with caramel sauce, we walked back to SOG to get some sleep for an action-packed day at MK.

Stay tuned....

report.......this is great........I am glad that you arrived and had such an awesome supper.......that sounds great to me too......thanks for the start of your trip report

Oh you guys are bad....make that poor child cry like that.:D I can never keep the secret long with my DGD, she's right into planning too. Last year we drove her mother crazy with our planning. She couldn't go because she'd started a new job. We're going again in October this year, daughter gets to go this time. MNSSHP here we come!

Can't wait for the rest of the reports...it's the only thing beside planning that gets me through! Thanks!

Thanks for the great report, More more!

Love Hilton Head too, but don't think I'd cry over the switch, LOL!

Glad you had a great trip!!

I'll never forget the post about the child that was told they were going "bowling" and then when they announced they were going to WDW, cried because they weren't going bowling. Kids are are so funny sometimes!

You're doing a great job. I can't wait to hear about the rest of the trip.

We surprised our kids with a trip in December. Keeping the secret was tough, but the pay off of their faces in utter astonishment was well worth it!
