Here's a mini trip report for you! Our day to london to see Mary Poppins. :cool1:

It was a very early start. the bus was due to leave Mansfield bus station at 6.20 am so we had to be up just after 5am!! YUK!! I am not a morning person at the best of times. We then picked people up at Nottingham and Leicester. Just as we seemed to be on our way we had a service station stop at Watford Gap for 45mins. Now, I know that some people like these stops, but I HATE them! It is time that could be spent in London. Anyway. We finally got going again and I managed to get an hours sleep in, which made me feel much better. We made our way through the normal London traffic and finally got to our stop around 11.20.

On the coach we had already decided after much debate that we were going to go to TGI Fridays for lunch, so we headed down to Leicester square. We had a mooch round the Trocadero and then straight into tGI's. We weren't bothered about trying to fit anything else in as we go down to London regularly, so we just wanted a chilled, relaxing day.

I already knew the starter i was having. Jack daniels sesame chicken strips. They are just divine!!!! We shared this. Then Si had JD ribs and I had a JD steak, which was just HUGE! But I managed to eat it quite easily!!! It was a delicious meal. :teeth:

We then had a leisurely stroll down to Covent Garden and then over to the Prince Edward theatre. We have seen Mamma Mia at this theatre as well, it is a truly beautiful theatre inside.

I wasn't sure what to expect from the show, as I had heard mixed reviews so was looking forward to forming my own opinion. The set was fantastic, very clever, i was very impressed with this. The cast were superb. Laura Michelle Kelly who playeed mary was outstanding and the children were excellent. In fact the whole cast were brilliant, very impressive. I really enjoyed the show, but it wasn't quite what I was expecting. It is a lot darker than I imagined and the lyrics are very different form the Disney film. There were some excellent new songs, but I was surprised that they had changed the lyrics of the existing songs so much. I also found some parts of it a tad slow. However, the special effects were excellent and seeing Mary Poppins fly was really quite special!!! :wizard:

Over all, I thoroughly enjoyed the show, but personally wouldn't want to see it again. However, everyone else on the coach thought it was wonderful, maybe i am just a misery guts!!! :bitelip:

It was then the LONG drive home, with another 45minutes stop! :scared1: finally got hone around 10.45pm.

We had a lovely, if rather long day.

Verity.

Now, which show to see next?............ ;)

I have heard it is quite dark too Verity. Were there any children on the coach and what did they make of it?

Yummy to your lunch - I think you had all my favourites there :teeth:

The children seemed to all enjoy it, although they were all abit older, around 12 I think. I thought that children any younger might find it a bit dull in parts. But that's just my opinion, could be wrong!
