Captain Jack Sparrow! Dirty DIRTY pirate!!!! (but profoundly cute) :rotfl:

So true so true!! and then his comment about the cabin boy...... pirate:
Very hot I must say........(see i keep digging my own hole here),

OK, not sure if this is a celebrity or not, but back in 1968 when I loved playing "Mystery Date" with my friend Marc. It was his sister's game, but when she wasn't around, we would play it (We were 12 years old. Do you think possibly this might have been a clue for somebody?)

(click here for Mystery Date theme)

Well, I had the biggest crush on "The Dud." I mean, I thought he was the cutest of the entire bunch.

And what a great anecdote!!!! Kinda gives you a real feel for what the marketing exec.s (who I think DID rule the early 60's bigger-faster-shinier-wham-bam culture) were promoting. And your unique twist on it (picking the the DUD! fer pitysakes :rotfl: ) shows how they just didn't get it by the end of the decade...
I vaguely remember what I think was a probably similar game -- Barbie's Dream Date or some such malarkey. Of all the games, my little girl buddies and I played together, this was, by far, the most insipid. Even by age 8 or 9, I knew I didn't want to pair up with one of the "dream dates" -- Poindexter (the loser-nerd) was infinitely preferable.
That pic was TOTALLY a walk down memory lane for me -- kinda like your post about the world's fair.
I'm fresh outa REAL crushes -- but maybe you can put me down for a slight diffident preference for POINDEXTER !!??

I think it was Barbie Goes to the Prom. And yes, I thought Poindexter was cute.

A few years back they released a reproduction of the original, and I bought it. I had some friends over for martinis and a round. Let me tell you, a bunch of 40-something men playing that game can get pretty vicious, especially if the dress he wanted is taken by someone else.

However, I did notice that it taught little girls some very basic life lessons:

Lesson 1 - Bad things happen to you if you go to school, so it's best avoided altogether (the school track in the game is rife with penalties).

Lesson 2 - After a car, a man is the ultimate accessory (After all, wasn't Ken little more than something to go with the car and the dream house?).

I think the night almost ended in a fight when a friend did not get the outfit he had wanted, "Solo in the Spotlight".

Regarding the potential dates, Poindexter was cute as well as the "tough."

Ok I tried to avoid this but I felt it only fair that I put it out there too……so answer me this…I am a lesbian who always has crushes (I guess you can call them that) on men who wear eyeliner…why? Like Martin Gore form Depeche Mode……. The lead singer of AFI, Trent Reznor from NIN……..I just do not get it……..

Ok I'm straight and I also fall for men in eyeliner...I don't know why :confused3 Benji Madden, Billie Joe Armstrong... :lovestruc

Ian ...
I'm not sure what's more frightening ... the fact that he was your pick or the fact that you HAVE the game! :rotfl:
P.S. I had a crush on Kate Jackson in Charlies Angels because she was the "smart" one, wore glasses sometimes and dressed in suits.

You too??!! I had a HUGE crush on Will Robinson when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I had imagined that we were best friends and somehow there was always a sleepover involved. All I knew at that age was that I thought he was really cool and it would be great to do a sleep over and share a bed.

I dunno.. Granted I was too wee to see him in prime time, but later in syndication, he creeped me out too much in the Twilight Zone episode for me to be in love.

I was 9 the first year Lost in Space was one. Some where in the next couple of years I got to meet Bill Mumy at some open house event. I remember being pretty excited! Got his autogragh but have since lost it. I know it would have been nice to have a sleep over. :)
