I asked my ds to go pick up his sister from the HS. She called me about 15 minutes later to tell me that they had been rear ended by a pick up truck, pushed forward, and hit a hitch on the SUV infront of them. Luckily, no one was injured. This is DS's 2nd time in an accident. He was at fault the first time but not this time. The airbags didn't go off and the car is still driveable but there is major damage. I called our insurance company this morning and was told we'd have to pay the $250 deductible. That ticks me off since ds was not at fault. There is also the whole inconvenience factor of the time the car will be in the shop. The car is only 1 year old and I know this will ruin any resale factor. Talked to the car dealer and the warrant is void in the areas repaired/replaced. The front bumper has a hole. The back bumper has a few holes/crushed in areas, and the rear hatchback door is crushed and won't open. Ugh. Do you think this will increase our insurance rate? And poor ds had to leave as soon as he got home for a 3 hour drive to the college campus where he has an interview today. Sometimes I feel like we just can't get ahead. But I am VERY grateful that no one was hurt.

Did the police come? Since your DS's car hit the car in front of him.....he is at fault for that part of the accident (even though it was the fault of the truck that hit him, it's just the way the laws are written). Your insurance might take a bit of a hit.
Sorry for your trouble. Good luck!

Yes, thank goodness, they got a police report. DS said the car in front of him wasn't hurt since he hit the hitch and was able to stop. Let's hope this is the case.

Then why is your insurance paying at all? The other agency should be paying.

This is not always true. We were the "filling" in a car sandwich and the person who caused the accident had to pay for all the cars. We too were stopped and consequently shoved into the car in front of us. We did not pay any deductible and her insurance paid for everything including a new car seat for DD.

Since he got a police report he should be fine. Call your insurance and have them deal with it all, its what you pay for!

My car was hit by a drunk driver during the overnight hours. Actually, the car behind me was hit by the drunk driver, then pushed into my car. In order to get the repairs made ASAP, I paid my my deductible and my insurance company paid the repair bills. After a few weeks of cajoling and calling, they reimbursed me my $500 deductible and went after the drunk driver's insurance, who reimbursement them for all repairs and my deductible. The car that hit mine was totalled, so they had to pay for that car as well.

Good luck and I'm so glad everyone is unharmed.
