Some of you know that I am booked on Disney's first Mediterranean Cruise for this year, which leaves Barcelona on Saturday. Ever since the volcano erupted in Iceland, I have been watching the situation like a hawk. In increasingly became unlikely that we would make it to the ship and I had all but given up. On Sunday I figured there must be a way to get to the ship and started to do some research. I found a couple of possible routes, but they all included us having to leave a couple of days earlier. So I had to try to get a couple of extra days off.

By the time I managed to get this sorted, the ferry to Spain (which would have been our first choice) was no longer available. So DH booked a highspeed ferry from Portsmouth to Le Havre instead. The ferry will leave tomorrow morning. We will head down to Portsmouth by train later this afternoon. From Le Havre we have to make our way to Paris somehow, but the trains are relatively frequent and quite quick. We will have the rest of Wednesday and pretty much all of Thursday in Paris before we get on an overnight train to Barcelona getting us there Friday morning.

I am seriously tempted to spend Thursday at Disneyland Paris. I have been many times, but always in late November and in December when the Christmas decorations are up. I would love to see it in spring and as I am in Paris anyway, it would be a shame not to go.

That's some travel day!

I reckon, if time allows, a nip into DLRP would be just what the Dr ordered. After all, the stress of almost not going at all......

Definitely. I had not only the stress of not being sure if we would make it, but I also work for an airline and had a lot of stress at work over the last few days.

Well, I am definitely going to Disneyland Paris now. When DH proudly provided me with the confirmations yesterday, I suffered a bit of sticker shock as the train tickets for both of us from Paris to Barcelona came to nearly EUR600. He did not seem bothered about it, so I decided I was not going to worry about it either. Today I had a look at the website and realised that somehow he managed to book three separate train journeys :lmao:

Fortunately the two that are surplus to requirements are fully flexible and can be refunded fully up to the day prior to departure and even on the day of departure, it would only cost EUR10 per ticket. The only ticket that is a bit more restrictive is the one we actually want. So the train journey actually only costs EUR181 for the two of us. I figure if we safe EUR400, then I can spend EUR50 on a ticket for Disneyland Paris. We will sort this mess out as soon as we get to Le Havre tomorrow.

Sounds wonderful, enjoy your trip.
I suggested the overnight Barcelona-Paris sleeper to my friends that were stuck in Spain last week, but they drove instead. I'd love to do that trip:thumbsup2

Have a wonderful cruise. Glad you were able to sort out transport.
