Our bad pre-Disney experience

They are worried about getting a planet, me, I just want to enjoy life and Disney.

I'm with you, though I would add that I'd also like to enjoy beer. Specifically a Big Daddy draft at ESPN Zone in DTD. Actually, make it two!

I was told by close friends who are LDS that Disney is the biggest promoter of beer and hard drinks. Ok, so I bit, why? Disney ownes ESPN and they have beer commercials.

Just had to state we (LDS) are not all that way. We live 12hrs. away and are proud AP holders.

So, yesterday, DH, 2 DS' & I were at Trader Joes buying snacks to take on our trip to DL Friday (yaaaaay!!!!) My husband had on a Disneyland hat as usual, and we were minding our own business, doing our shopping, when this man walked up to us and said "Oh, Disneyland. Do you go there much?" My DH said yes, thinking we were running into another Disney freak like us, and the guy said "the Disney corporation is the second largest seller of pornography in the world. Thought you would like to know" and then walked away. We were stunned. Thankfully our 6 & 9 year old sons didn't hear him. We just blew it off, but - what a jerk! I cannot imagine what would make someone think that is okay.

Anyway, I was just curious if anyone else has ever heard anything like that? I know there are a lot of people that hate Disney, and a lot of people that dislike any big corporation, but that just wasn't one I had heard before.

Still excited about our trip in 3 days, 23 hours and 3 minutes!!

So really it was not that bad right? I mean he is just some fool in the crowd, and you do not know him and really does it matter what he said? and the world is full of them!!

One year I was riding a scooter in the park and some guy jumps over my cart to get ahead of me, then he jumps back over me again, the crowds were bad but hey jump over my scooter? So here he comes again and this time I ran over his foot. OUCH that had to hurt... and he screams at me. I was polite until he got into my face as I tried to explain how rude it was to jump in front of me over and over !! then I told him to be careful, for the next several days I was going to look out for him so I can run over his other foot.

I have never heard of this and I honestly doubt they ever would take part in such an industry, if they really actually did, you can bet we would all know about it.
You will always get all sorts of people and groups against Disney making up stories of that sort.

Next time tell him "Thank you sir for this lovely piece of information, your fly is undone, have a good day!".

I have seen it! I have that old copy of the Little Mermaid and sure enough, the Castle has a little extra.....uh.....pep to it, let's say!

Ok, I want to know whats in tritons castle really I do I can see disney sexualizes a lot of music for the tween set, I never let my little girl listen to it but she is old enough now. I think some of that stuff is to out there for little girls. but again I love disneyland so it evens out

The middle turret on the golden castle on the cover of the earlier VHS copies only, there is a large male "member" sticking up pretending it's part of a magical tower. *ahem* I had to do a double take. I still have the video and could show a pic, but I don't think it would be appropriate. I'm sure you can find a pic somewhere. Good luck! You'll get a kick out of it for sure

Not nosey at all - I've mentioned before....he just thinks there's absolutely nothing "magical" about Disney....it's all a bunch of dirty ol' men getting high or drunk making up stories or creating new ones...or rides...or theme parks. I see it as he's a jaded indvidual who just doesn't see the magic. And that's ok....bc I can be Pollyanna so we round out nicely.

I've also mentioned he came around a LITTLE more after our son went - seeing it through his eyes gave him a new "lease" on DL. But if I expect him to enjoy himself I HAVE to make plans in the winter, the less crowds the better for everyone involved. Dad happy = everyone happy. Mom is immediately happy if she's in DL afterall....

Since the kids getting older he's gotten better about keeping his opinions to himself.

Disney probably owns parts of company that produce pornography. Just like for a while the owned (and I think still do) Miramax films. Disney has such a firm stake in our economy that really you could pin anything to them. I've heard things like that before and I just tend to ignore it Im sure theres alot of shady things that go on, its just part of being a being corporation. The fact of the matter is though that they are useually worth the money you spend.

Totally not true. That guy was just being the real-life equivalent of an internet troll. Disney has a number of subsidiary studio and media network companies, which make anything sports show broadcasts (ESPN) to the evening news (ABC), from old men in flying houses (Pixar) to even R-rated films. However, Miramax (as Alvernon mentioned) is an independent division of Disney so all their films are completely out of the jurisdiction of Parks and Resorts and WD Pictures.

Oh man, I would have come back with something. Something like "How would you know? Do you buy it all?" and then called him a loser or something similar. LOL I can't stand people who make lame remarks like that. Sure Disney owns other movie companies but to say that is just lame.

So apparently the story behind that is that the animator was really tired one night and had to finish the cover art of the VHS, so he finished one palace turret just a little too hastily.

Thanks for all the responses - at least we weren't the only ones who thought the guy was a jerk. We both blew him off, but its funny how something like that can get under your skin even if you try to forget about it. I agree with the people who posted about the tween stuff from Disney - our kids aren't allowed to watch any of those shows because of the general image they portray, and the lack of respect for parents they show. But then there is High School Musical, which I haven't seen (two boys that don't care), but every mom I talk to says is great. The thing is, when we are at Disneyland, our family is together having a great, very family-friendly time. That is what matters to me.

I am curious though, does Miramax actually produce porn, or only R rated movies?

Miramax does not do porn, but they do very controversial R or even NC-17 movies, some of which are very violent or sexual in nature. Think "Pulp Fiction" - that kind of thing and beyond, which is very non-Disney. But Miramax was Miramax way before Disney acquired them as part of their empire. So Disney wanted in on the Miramax action. They saw a good investment and went for it.

They did, indeed. They YANKED it lmao:) off the shelves in favor of a more family friendly Castle cover quite some time ago. I still, proudly, have my old Little Mermaid copy, however I remember loaning it to a boyfriend I had back in the early '90s so he could let his son watch the movie, and I pointed out the, ahem...turret...and even he - who was a seasoned gentleman who had seen and done it all - was a little surprised.
