Our August 2006 TRIP REPORT (with lots of Pictures) ***COMPLETE***

One of the things I continue to notice about my family, Disney World, and vacations in general is the increase in quality conversations and family time. One night about 2 weeks before we left, my DB, Mom, and I were on my parents back patio talking about past trips. My mom had brought pictures of previous trips from home for us to look at. We laughed at fashion choices, remembered the magic, and just talked. The magic of Disney World extends far beyond the confines of the property. It extends beyond time. It spreads beyond feuds, fights, and not so great memories. It consistently brings you back to the place you need to be. A place with family, laughter, and magic.

********************************************************
I couldn't have said it better myself. I feel the same way and never knew how to explain my Disney obsession to other people who just cannot understand. You just worded exactly how I feel. It is the same way for my family too. Thanks for posting your trip report....but where is the rest?? :teeth: Can't wait to hear more.

We snuggled in to the VERY comfy beds at the Contemporary, enjoying the 69 degree room when… Suddenly…. the air conditioner went off. Okay, I know what you are thinking… SO WHAT?? It sounds so innocent but….

A noise like a motorcycle :moped: being started was coming from the A/C unit in the entrance to our room. It only stopped when the air conditioner was actually running. Now, I like cool as much as the next person, but sleeping in a room with an air conditioner that you can’t turn off does not appeal to me. :cold:

At about midnight, when we couldn’t stand it anymore, we called maintenance. They sent someone and the noise stopped….

For a while.

About 4 am it started again. With a passion.

I was not happy. :sad2:

When the wake up call came (I was already awake for it), I called maintenance again. I politely (okay maybe not so politely) asked for someone to come look at our A/C unit again. Today. DD heard me on the phone and asked what I was talking about. She had slept through it all, including the late night maintenance visit.

I really hated her.

Not really.

I was just really jealous. Of her ability to sleep whilst a freight train ran through our room.

I hate her too! (just teasin') :rotfl:
But I do hate folks who can sleep thru freight train runs, tornados and the such!
And yeah, we Texans like ac, but don't take too kindly to freezin'.
Great report, when's the next one? :Pinkbounc

I cant wait to go check out 50's PTC! Those photos look just like my grandparents' kitchen. Probably look just like everyone's Grandparents' kitchens!

...heck with THAT...it looks like MY kitchen..... :guilty:

can't wait to dive in- just after reading your first post, i think we must be sisters! nearly the same age- i love travelling too- also got married in vegas, DH loves vegas and just 'puts up' with the mouse and i also did the station wagon drive from TX (dallas) to WDW as a kid, although we roughed it in our camper and i thought it might be our once in a lifetime trip as well! such similarities! well can't wait to read the rest!! :cool1:

I'm hooked too. And I've just email our TA to get a ADR to the 50's PTC. :thumbsup2

btw, how'd the softball game(s) go? And that banner being upsidedown is driving the OCD in me CRAZY.

Great report!!! I've only gotten to page 2, but I wanted to post and say that was our waitress last week at 50's!!!! She was great!!!

Great report!
Keep it coming!

Oh and tiggerbell, I'll have to highly recommend that dessert. I had it a couple years ago (last time at PTC) and it was SO good. I wanted something sweet but not too heavy and it was perfect! I'll have a tough time convincing myself to try something new next time I go back.

Lovin' it! And your picture of the angel food cake with berries at Prime Time convinced me - I've been trying to figure out my dessert for that meal and now I know.

kimmar067 - those uniforms WERE bright. us parents joked that if the lights went out at the night games we could just station our players around the field and resume play... :lmao:

exwdwcm - I would LOVE to talk to you more!! PM me and tell me about your trip as a child, your vegas wedding and where you live in texas!!

wewantmore - the softball games went well. The girls played okay, but finished about 16th out of 20 teams. Since we were the first to go we considered this acceptable!!

Oh - the sign in the softball picture is supposed to be upsidedown. :-)

Thanks everyone for reading!!!

Anyway. On to day 2.

I got everyone up, showered, dressed, and presentable. On to breakfast.

We had a ton of food. Snack food. Breakfast food. Water. Snack food. We looked at each other. No one was hungry for breakfast. I ate ½ a bagel. I was stuffed. Bad sign.

We headed back to the Magic Kingdom today. :wizard: Again… Not entirely sure why. Probably due to the fact that we really hadn’t spent a tremendous amount of time in it on the previous trips.

We hit Fantasyland first thing this morning. Most of these rides I (and my DFamily) hadn’t been on either ever or in several years.

We rode Peter Pan’s Flight. I had never experienced this particular attraction (even though I LOVE the Peter Pan Story). I really liked it. I thought it was too cute. After that we rode Cinderella’s Carousel. We found the horse that is supposedly Cindy’s favorite with a gold ribbon on the tail. DD got to ride on it.

Notice the gold ribbon on the tail.

Next we hit Mickey’s Philharmagic. :smickey: I had never seen this either. I really liked it, too. I think it should be called Donald’s Philhar-uh-oh.

Next was it’s a small world… What can I say…. After all?

And finally we rode Winnie the Pooh. pooh: I miss Mr. Toad, but I think this is a suitable replacement with a cute story and current time appropriate characters.

We headed out of Fantasyland and around the castle towards the Haunted Mansion. On the way we stopped here.

This is probably my favorite fountain at the Magic Kingdom.

After Ghastly Manor, we went to the Hall of Presidents. This was the first time my DD and DH had experienced this attraction. They were suitably impressed.

After the presidents, we headed to BTMRR (Big Thunder Mountain Railroad) … Again. This time… no rain. While my DB, DSIL, DN and DD got in the line for BTMRR, DH and I went to get fastpasses for Splash Mountain.

After the railroad, we decided we were hungry… We really didn’t want hamburgers so we wandered around until we found Columbia Harbor House. At this point we just wanted food. This was probably my least favorite counter service meal from the whole trip. I got the fish and fries basket. The fish was gross and the fries were greasy … ummm … greasier than normal fries… You know what I mean. My stomach was not happy with me…

After recovering from “lunch” we had time to kill so we sat thru the Country Bear Jamboree. Skip this attraction... Unless you really like Chuck-E-Cheese and the gang.

Next we headed over to use our fast passes for Splash Mountain. I love this ride. The brer fox and rabbit story is probably one of my favorite at the World. My only complaint is… Why did it have to end with a SPLASH?

Ok. I have a confession to make. I wear a poncho on water rides. All water rides.

I hate getting wet while in “street clothes.” It totally grosses me out. It is a family joke… “Okay everybody, lets go ride **fill in the name of your favorite water ride** Now. Ok, Mom, where do you want to meet us???”

Yeah, honey, wanna go ride Tower of Terror?? Huh?? Do ya?

Anyway, the ride was uneventful… and guess what?

I didn’t get wet.

Because of my poncho.

Laugh all you want. I don’t care. I’ll still be dry.

It was time for our daily afternoon break. At DB request, we hopped on the WDW Railroad and rode around to the entrance. We were coming back to the Magic Kingdom for our ADR at the Liberty Tree Tavern in a few hours.

I'm a poncho gal too. I can not have wet hair. I also sit on a fresh poncho. Good times.

OH! Thank you for the picture of the gold ribbon horsey! I want to ride Cindy's favorite horse!

Love the pictures of the desserts. I am so going to oder the S'more dessert.

Ia ikedla hatwa ouya rotewa.
