I can't believe all the things we did on our long weekend trip to NYC. Me, DD, her BFF and BFF's mom and aunt decided to do a girls trip to NYC instead of big birthday parties this year.

Here's what we crammed in to our trip:

Friday
-Landed around 10:30
-Checked into the hotel
-American Museum of Natural History (picture with Dum Dum below)
-Haden Planetarium show - Amazing!
-Walked through Central Park
-Hanging out in Times Square

Saturday
- Statue of Liberty
- Ellis Island (we found DDs Great, Great Grandfather's immigration info!!)
- Rockefeller Center and Top of the Rock
- Dinner at American Girl Place (with no reservations, just walked right up)
- Empire State Building at night (Breathtaking and this nice older gentlemen took us to the head of the elevator line!)

Sunday
- Metropolitan Museum of Art
- MOMA (only 1 hour)
- Back to the airport and home

We were all so tired but had such a fabulous trip!! We also met some very nice and helpful people (I always do when I am in NYC).

The one tip I would give anyone that is going there is to get the City Pass. It's $79 for adults and gets you into all the attractions I mentioned. You not only save money, but lots of time as you don't have to stand in line to buy tickets and then stand in line to go to get in. We probably saved about 45 minutes alone waiting for the ferry for the Statue of Liberty.

The girls are already asking when we can go back but I need a rest first!

Here are links to some pictures (still can't figure out how to post them):

Thanks for the report! We are going in August for three full days. Went last year for a couple of days but will have DS with us this year too. I went to NYC in the late '70's and then on business 3-4 times a few years ago. It was a first time for DD and DH last summer.

Still working on trying to get a hotel for low cost (got a 4 star last year for $110/night), but have our Statue of Liberty Crown tickets reserved and paid for. We went up in the Crown last year too (my second time) and it was awesome!!! Ellis Island is a must-do (my second time), especially with the audio tour.

We have yet to make our list of sites to see but am considering the City Pass. I know that my company ID will get us in free to some of the museums so will need to crunch the numbers to see if the City Pass is the way to go for us.

Anyway, it was good to read your report! Thanks for posting.

Hi Tinkermommy,
Thanks for sharing. :thumbsup2 Sounds like you had a wonderful time and got to do A LOT! Long weekend trips are a nice break from the norm especially when you get to see so much. Thanks again for sharing.

Thanks for sharing! We are heading up there next Thursday for a long weekend and getting so excited! :goodvibes

How was your weather?

We spent four nights over Memorial Day weekend, and had a blast. We stayed at the Salisbury Hotel on West 57th (huge rooms and reasonably priced). We ate at the Russian Tea Room for lunch (very good, if a bit expensive), but our favorite find was the Brooklyn Diner (corner of W. 57th and 8th Ave), which served excellent Rubens, etc.

The weather was fine during our trip, although I know that as summer increases so does the heat.

Other recommendations: take the subway (I think the "F" train) to the first stop in Brooklyn, and then walk back over the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan. Great scenery.

We also took the Staten Island ferry (free!), which was fun.

We also took a helicopter ride via Zip Aviation. Beware! We signed up for the expensive 20-25 minute ride that promised to fly over Central Park, and then visit each of the five boroughs. Once we arrived we were told that new regulations no longer permitted them to fly over the city, so most of the flight was literally up and down the Hudson river (we did move in overland to fly over Yankee Stadium). Not worth the money.

We were in town the weekend Glee was playing at the Radio City Music Hall (right down the street from our hotel) and I believe I saw Lea Michelle (sic?) walking down 7th avenue.

Weather was mostly great.

It was hot when we were at the Statue of Liberty. We also got stuck in the rain for a short time (10 min) but other than that is was beautiful.

We did the Empire State Building at night and it was perfect. I wouldn't want to be up there when it's cold.

Have a great time!
