Well, As everyone knows this was our first ever cruise. Our friends had sailed Disney before and had a Cat. 9. So we booked a Cat. 9 along with them and 2 other families who joined us. Total 4 families had a cat. 9. Stating that so no one thinks cat. 9 rooms aren't good.
We get to our room and go in and I state to DH wow this is a nice room. He agrees and then we go back up to sailaway party. Go back down to see if more bags have arrived and when I walk in I smell sewage. Think nothing of it since we haven't left port yet and think its just normal, since again we haven't left port and assume the smell is coming from sewage being pumped from the previous cruise. Go back to room to get dressed for dinner and notice the smell of sewage again. I call guest services and inform them and they say they will pass on the message to the appropriate dept. No Problem.
We unpack all 9 of our bags and get dressed and go to dinner. Get back from dinner and notice there is no smell. Go to bed and wake up Sunday morning to the worst odor you can imagine. I am at this point gagging. If anyone has ever had a cesspool pumped they know what I am talking about. Again through out the day the odor is on again off again. I am calling guest services and informing them. They are coming in the room and putting drain cleaner down the bathtub all day Sunday. (By the way, The odor is coming from the bathtub drain)
Go to bed Sunday night and awaken 5 A.M. Sunday morning gagging, so I get dressed and go to guest services and ask if someone can come to the room immediately to smell this, so they know how to fix it. 5:30 a.m. I am taking housekeeping into my cabin while my family is sleeping. I now have to close the bathtub room door and place towels under the door to keep the smell from seeping in the room. All day Monday the odor was still very apparent to the point it gagged you at times. My DD left our room for the dining room on formal night with her hand over her mouth gagging.
What annoyed me the most is that the Guest services manager thought we wanted an upgrade for nothing. And that is so far from the truth. We kept telling Miska, please just fix the problem we DON'T want to move rooms we are all unpacked, we are happy with the room, just FIX the problem. If you can't fix the problem then yes we want ANOTHER room. She told us to go on deck one and see a cabin, but it was so dark and dingy in the cabin there , I said No way. Give us another cat. 9 on deck 2. She said none was available, then we said ugrade us then , this is not OUR fault. If you can't fix it upgrade us.
We were given another room to shower in, room 2594. Never book #2594 people, that room shakes, rattles and rolls, My 6yo DD was afraid to shower in there because the noises spooked her. It was real fun running down the hall with clean clothes and underwear in your hand and running back with a towel on your head. That room only slept 3. Thank God. On Sunday evening, we started dealing with Bret, I am assuming the night Guest services manager, since he got off at 11 p.m. He was much more willing to listen and try to help than Miska, she really didn't seem to care.
Finally by Monday afternoon, my husband had had it, and he said either get us out of that room or give me the name of someone who has the authority to do it. He was going to call shore in Florida for someone with authority. All I kept asking is don't you have the same policy as Carnival, if you are not happy with the cruise they send you home from the first port. I was ready to leave when we were at Key west, but they said no policy like that here.
Finally, just before we were going to our formal dinner on Monday evening Brett called and said they had an available cat.5 cabin. So guess what, after dinner, we had to pack up our suitcases and move. They moved the luggage but we had to pack up.
First Bret said he had room 5020 open, I said sorry thats a category 10 secret porthole room. and he said, what is a secret porthole room. I told him to read the DIS boards. When I got to guest services to meet him, they told me he was in the room to check it out. So its true, the employees don't know about the secret porthole rooms.
The rest of the cruise is history, and that is why when the air didn't go off in our room and we were freezing and the verandah door didn't lock, I felt I couldn't say anything, or they would think we were people who couldn't be made happy. So I warned my 6 yo to stay away from the verandah door and put 2 blankets on the bed.
Another ironic thing is I never received the comment form on the last day of the cruise. Hmmmm Wonder why.
In Miskas defense the letter saying they had another room for us had Brets and HER name on it, BUT it was a standard printed card, so I don't know if she really had anything to do with helping us.
Needless to say I wasn't happy the first 3 days on board. and that in itself is quite sad. I thought Disney customer service was better than that. even my staeroom host told me the room ahd an odor, and he called before I even got on board to get it fixed.
Also by the end of the cruise the bathrooms in aft by the restaurants were all closed due to a piece of metal in the system.. Could that have been the problem all the time??? who knows and we will never know.
