Were heading to OKW, cruise and VWL in May. Its our 10th DVC anniversary
.
Our buy-in trip was Thursday, May 21, 1992 - Sunday, May 24, 1992. Our first day at DVC was probably the worst DVC day weve ever had. Fortunately its been getting better ever since!
We toured OKW in March '92, but it took a few weeks to make up our minds. We couldn't buy by mail because DVC wasn't registered in NH yet. Once we decided, we set up a trip for 5/21 - 5/24. We would arrive early, sign all the paperwork, and stay the weekend on points. Well...
DW took Thurs and Friday off and left from Boston. I was in Nashville on a business trip, so I arranged to fly from Nashville to Orlando, leaving Nashville around noon. When I got to the Nashville airport, however, the flight was cancelled. DW was already en route, so I left Cindy a message that I was delayed. I waited on standby for a later flight. When I got my standby it was after 5pm, and I just had time to leave Cindy another message saying when I'd be arriving (this was before cell phones!). At MCO, I told the Mears driver I wanted Disney Vacation Club, and he said he knew where that was, but he was thinking Villas. He actually had no clue what/where DVC was. After driving around, he finally had to call the dispatcher and ask (after all, I was clueless back then too). I finally arrived at OKW at about 8:30pm! Needless to say, I was in a foul mood.
Meanwhile, when DW arrived, Cindy already knew I'd be delayed. They did all the paperwork with DWs signature, and Cindy got us approved to stay overnight before I signed. They both really came through!
We had a nice relaxing late dinner outside at Olivia's. Between the flight and buying in, I was so wound up that I didn't fall asleep til after 2am. We were in room 1910, right on the end of the building opposite Miller's Road bus stop, and the squealing brakes kept me awake.
The next morning we finished signing up (and we've been adding on ever since). So all's well that ends well.
