Ouch! Just booked two rooms at Atlantis

Yes, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach both are exceptional waterparks at WDW.

My take on it having been there many times now, but never having used its waterpark.

The Wristbands you buy there just give you access to roam the resort, NOT to use the water amenities. You have to get a room at Atlantis or Comfort Suites for that, you get a different wristband for that. Note that wristbands are not transferable.

The resort is goregous. I have pics up on the website link below.
It is also very sprawling. And it isn't a waterpark per say more like what you see at the Deluxe resorts at WDW spread over a larger area. There are two waterslides that come down from this aztec-looking pyramid, a lazy river and a bunch of lagoon side beaches, and one oceanfront beach. All spread out over a 1/2 mile plus area. Here's a map.
atlantis_map.jpg

Areas in red is mostly where the 'Dig' Aquariums are,

C- The two slides, 1 body, 1 innertube they both go thru a plexiglas tube thru a tank with sharks in it.
D- The lazy river
E- Lagoon with beaches
H- The public oceanside beach (it is not private)
X- indicate lagoons containg marine life and cannot be swam in.

It's really up to you wether it's worth it or not.

Personally, I think the DCL is so wonderful and the 3 or 4 day cruises are so short that we don't even want to get off at Nassau. We stay onboard and enjoy the ship. Unfortunately, on our last cruise I noticed lots more people are doing this too. The ship didn't empty out like it did the year before.

Anyway, I can't tell you if it is too much money, we have never (and will never) go there. That price is just way beyond anything I could justify in my mind. We are going to Blizzard Beach (rated the 2nd best Water Park in the country by the Travel Channel) after our next cruise.

I've checked out the Atlantis website, but after seeing your map, I can definately appreciate the layout of this beautiful resort much better...It looks like it will truly be a day in "Paradise" and to a previous post about "what if it rains" I really pray the sun will be shining, but if not, then we will have the pools to ourselves and have no lines for the slides. Because I will make sure that everyone in our party gets wrinkled up from staying in those beautiful pools all day!
Thanks all!:wave2:

I wouldn't believe what you were told about getting the room early due to being on DCL. Atlantis is going to give the rooms first to those that are staying for more than one day no matter what they tell you. Just realize that technically check in is 3, so you may not have use of your room until that hour.
That being said, we did the day room at the Atlantis last January and though my kids really enjoyed it, it was a very costly day.
On top of the room, tax and maid fee, there's also an electricity charge for everyone so it really adds up. Food there is also very expensive and we found that service was very SLOW since tips were automatically added onto each and every bill.
Depending on what time of year it is, you can also try and see if day rooms are available or keep checking back with Comfort suites.

I had booked a room at the Atlantis and when I made the reservation I specifically told the gentlemen that there were 5 in our party. I gave him the names and ages of all 5. I also had told him that we were on a cruise and that we would not be spending the night. But when I got the confirmation in the mail only 4 names were listed, my youngest son the last name I gave him was not on the confirmation. So I called to see what happened. It was then that I was told that there is a limit of 4 to a room. So I asked If they had rooms for 5 and what the cost would be. I was told to hold while they transferred me to the person who handled suites. Well this person was one of the rudes people I've ever spoken to. When I explained that we wanted to book the room so we could use the pools and slides, her response was that the resort wasn't for use by cruise people. I reminded her that was why we were booking the room. She then snapped back at me and gave me a price that was over $900.00. Needless to say I cancelled the original reservation and don't think we will even go see the resort now.

Hi

Why not take that 900.00 and stay three days at the beach or yatch club resort...they have a great pool along the line of the atlantis...the only difference is they only have one big slide...but they have a lazy river too, :wave2:

The slides are really great and my kids and my husband enjoyed them. I wouldn't go so far as saying the pools are so beautiful though. A lot of the water that you see in the maps are not pools, they're small lakes. The pools are nice, not great. There is a regular pool with the small lazy river ride, nothing compared to a real water park. The 2 slides that you hear all about DO NOT go into the pools. You exit out into a small area of water and have to leave immediately, just like at any water park. The pools are okay.
To each his own on what money is worth what. I just looked at our bill from 1/03 and we spent almost $500 on the hotel, a nothing special lunch for only 4 of us, and 3 drinks. While I'm glad I can say we did it, I would never do it again and I don't mind spending money.
Maybe you want to check into other websites and read some more reviews about the Atlantis and the pools and service, it may just change your mind.

We stayed at the Beach Club villas in Aug 2002 and Aug 2003 and loved the resort especially the pool area. This year we will be staying at the Old Key West resort for 13 days after the cruise so we'll get our fill of water slides at Blizzard Beach and my son(s) favorite Typhoon lagoon. This will be our first cruise and like a lot of other first time cruisers we wanted to do it all. It was just disappointment and didn't expect the bad attitude from the reservationist.

maybe you should do a poll to see what people who have done this before thought if it was worth the money...

We spent 5 nights in the Royal Tower at Atlantis in Oct. 2000 for under $2000. I don't think that $800+ for the day is worth it at all. I loved Atlantis, but it's not worth that much $$$!!

Your question (2 or 3 times) was: "is this crazy" so I believe you're asking for opinions. Since you asked...IMHO yes. Almost $900 for ONE day seems ridiculous. Think what that amount of money could do for some people! My conscience would have a bit of trouble with me spending that much for one single day in addition to a cruise & a visit to Disneyworld. Sorry if this offends others, but you did ask for opinions. And, yes, we do take vacations (as you can see in my signature) but just a bit more "frugally". In any case, I do sincerely hope you enjoy your vacation and wish you well in whatever is decided.

Just use the stuff that Disney has to offer on the ship and , use the money for a deposit on another cruise ..... u could do just a beach for a fraction of the price....

I just did the day at Atlantis ( booked CS) on Feb 9, and it eneded up costing us $75 per person. That is not counting taxi fare and lunch. We did have a good time, but still it was not worth the money for the amount of time we were there.
I say do what you want ( it's your money after all:D )
but it's JMO that the amount of money you would pay , it is not worth it.
Next time I would do the Blue Lagoon.

Yes it is. If you stay at one of the resorts there are buses nthat takes you there.

WhAT Crissyp forgot to tell you is that there are 14 people with us and will all had to book a room there. So its not just her rooms. I think we have about 5 rooms there total around $ 2000.00. ( THIS IS FOR ONLY 1 DAY )Now if you thing that's crazy, you should ask her how much the airfare cost and all the tickets for the parks. 5 day hopper plan for everyone OUCH!!!

BUT ::yes:: remember we are 14 people together having fun so if we spend it this year, I can bet you next year we should have around 25 people.. It seems that everyone wants to travel with us.. We all have the best time together, and for all the kids as well.

PS: So if you want to travel with us next time, Just ask crissy she'll pay for us ALL''

I hope this is worth it! Two rooms Atlantis...$868.00 plus 12% room grats and $7 per person....2 adults/4 teens. Is this crazy???

Well, since you asked..... yes, I think that is crazy. I'm all for splurging at times- but that's a lot! For your sake I hope it is worth it.... that's a tall order to fill though. Fingers crossed for you... especially on the rain thing.
Do they even have the pools/slides and such open if it rains? You may not have the option of doing those things in the rain even if you want to...
