I would be buying them on my VDH contract so I was wanting them to be valid at VDH which is restricted in case I end up changing the reservation I would be originally be using them for.

Just to clarify…you don’t buy them for a contract…you buy them for use in a membership.

Since they are direct points, they can be used everywhere. They will be put in a temporary contract to hold them.

Yes. All memberships can buy up to 24 per membership.

I have to correct you.

If your membership only have restricted points and you buy OTUP then those OTUP won’t be eligible to book riviera, VDH etc.

If you own a mix then they will be eligible.

I have mixed memberships and those that only have restricted points there my OTUP can’t book riviera etc.

Online definitely makes sense as I heard people that are resale can't see RIV

Yeah i can't see it but maybe I'll get an out of touch cast member like I did this year next time the need arises, us resale have to be resourceful lolll

If you only own restricted points then you can’t even search for availability at RIV, VDH etc. then when you buy OTUP you still can’t search for them.

ONE thing I haven’t tried is calling in to use the OTUP at riviera maybe that will work

There have been reports here that people have indeed, with restricted memberships, been eligible to buy and use OTU points at the restricted resort for a night.

You obviously have to call to do it because your account is blocked....and won't pull up those resort for you....but definitely owners have been able to do it.....I have all eligible membershps so I can't test it...

Were that after the last system glitch where owners could book restricted resorts using restricted points?

You obviously have to call to do it because your account is blocked....and won't pull up those resort for you....but definitely owners have been able to do it.....I have all eligible membershps so I can't test it...

And this makes sense.

Usage restrictions are a proprety of points not a property of memberships. Buying (renting?) points directly from Disney can carry whatever usage rights Disney chooses to grant.

And, in the future, I can see this type of plan being expanded as a way to allow restricted owners to pay for trades on a per reservation basis.

Okay everyone, my brain just cant figure out OTUP, every time I think Im going to purchase I get confused and give up. I am back to wanting to try to do this.

I have a reservation I have already made for 12/05/2025

My UY is December

Am I correct that buying OTUP points today to try and swap to use them for the 12/05/2025 reservation wont work since my UY starts over 12/01/2025?

If you buy them for the 2025 use year, it should work as long as the reservation was made 7 months or less. It will not work if you buy them for the 2024 year as the reservation is not in that year.
