So tonight we went to an amusement park about 10 min from our house for the first time since we were at Disney last fall. I didn't realize just how disappointed I would be. I have been to that park all my life but last fall was my first "real" trip to Disney (as in paid for & planned by me as an adult, long trip, research, etc.). We bought our season passes and were walking around talking about how much it felt like a carnival compared to Disney. If it weren't for the water park (and blue ice cream) I would totally be regretting buying the passes! Does anyone else compare everything to Disney?

You are not alone.

Nothing compares-from rides to customer service, Disney is in a league of it's own!

We live near Six Flags over Georgia. We have been to WDW twice this year and then I took my 6 yr old to Six Flags. She liked it enough but said it was no Disney World.

NO.

I am the exact opposite.

I have been to Cedar Point every year (sometimes more than once) since I was 4yrs old. (am now 41).
And my first trip to WDW was at 40......

It was so magical and so much more than I ever dreamed that I was afraid when I went back to Cedar Point aftwards that it wouldn't be the same....nope I was fine.

To me it is apples and eggs. Not even in the same catagory. Cedar Point is an amusement park (and the best in my opinion) WDW is NOT. It is a world all unto it's own. To even compare them is like comparing a great dane to a yorkie....yes they are dogs, but not the same breed.

WDW has attractions not rides....it is being emersed into another world. Amusement parks have rides...not real theming, no restaurants, no magic, it is just rides and thrills. WDW takes us on a journey while we are there, so to say it is an amusement park is missing the boat.

I agree with Nadjalu. We go to King's Island every year and Disney about every other, and I don't even try to compare them. I love KI for what it is; love WDW for what it is.

Disney is a world of its own; a place to be completely isolated. Other theme parks are a place to have fun while still remaining part of the real world (and I won't pretend I don't enjoy the more thrilling rides at KI, lol).

I think I need to look at it as apples and eggs too. I was talking about Kings Island...we live about 10 minutes from there! I didn't even want to ride anything tonight. I don't do the big coasters there anymore so maybe that is part of it too. I'm still excited about the waterpark and somewhere to take my daycare kids but Disney is definitely a world of its own that I love, love, love. I think I am just so into all things Disney planning our next trip this fall that when we went tonight I was just underwhelmed.

I don't know. Maybe I'm easily entertained, but I also love being at Universal Studios and IOA. I prefer Disney, but I'm not disappointed when I'm at Universal.

Disney does the things that it does very well. But they don't do everything... And other parks do other things quite well.

maybe they need a 5th park with 8-10 thrill rides...:lmao:

As has been pointed out numerous times, WDW is an experience, not just about the rides. I like Universal, but I'm not going to wander to their 3 resorts like I will at Disney. I'm 4 hours from Six Flags Georgia, and can go there for my more over-the-top thrill rides, but I save to go to WDW for the rest of the experience, because it's a little different in each park.

they only have 2... US and IoA...unless you count CityWalk..

I don't bother going to Playland or the PNE. I also don't bother going to the water parks around here.

Nothing can compare to WDW. Why spend $50 or more going to one of these places when I can go to WDW and have more fun and enjoyment. I'll have to wait til my next trip but to me it's worth it.

Fireworks are the same. After seeing WDW, why bother with other ones.

Same point of view! Add to that that at Disney you can actually get a decent CS meal and are not restricted to greasy, ketchup-drowned, soggy fries ..... :rolleyes1

I'm with you!!! I put DisneyWorld and Cedar Point equally at the top of my list.

Oh I hear ya. I'm not as close to Kings Island as you (about an hour and a half from here) but we went all the time growing up, and I still have love for the park, but I can't help but compare to WDW even though like others have said it's apples to oranges. Plus I think KI lost a lot under Paramount - I've been hoping that now that it's owned by Cedar Fair things are improving but I've not been back since it changed hands.

My whole family has been to Dollywod a few times. And while we enjoy the park, even my mom has commented that their employees need to go to Disney Cast Memeber School. I don't think you realize just how much the CMs at Disney do interact with you until you go someplace else and they pretty much ignore you.

My parents took our family to DW about every other year while I was growing up. We, also, went to Kings Island a lot. One year, I was probably about 7 or so, I got the two confused so when we went to Kings Island, I started looking for rides like Peter Pan. I was so mad when I realized that I was at the wrong park!

I live in Louisville and our Six Flags closed this year, which is okay because it was terrible and I didn't feel safe there at all. I hadn't been in about 7 years. The only amusement park I will visit now and enjoy is Holiday World because they have a nice waterpark and it is very clean and relaxing. Of course, it doesn't compare to Disney but for a day each summer it is nice.
