Next year, we intend to visit the mouse late in the year, possibly December. Earlier in the year we hope to go on a beach holiday. DD 2.5 is now ready for a week or two of swimming and building sand castles. But for the life of me I cannot find a resort that seems to meet our needs. The problem is, every time I find a resort that seems to fit the bill, I read trip advisor and get put off!!!

We want a 4 * hotel/ apartment complex with child care facilities, DD will be 3 next May.

We fancy the Balearic Islands or maybe even Barbados or somewhere similar if we find a resort that seems suitable. We have DVC so we have got used to one bed apartments so this would be a bonus but not a necessity.

So, can anyone recommend a child friendly, 4* resort on a beach?

Thanks so much,

We have just returned from Barbados and had a truly wonderful trip. We stayed at Cobblers Cove which was perfect for us, and very family orientated. Almost all of the guests had children, many of them with young children. The staff were extremely helpeful and understanding of families needs, providing lots of help and excellent service - there were all the necessities for hire as well (cots/high chairs/books/toys etc). The resort was very casual and intimate (just 40 suites) and the beach was very child friendly. There were many activities for young children including arts and crafts, sailing, turtle exploration, tennis and games/activities. The hotel restaurant was wonderful - and there was an excellent childrens menu available. If you like the large room sizes of DVC, then the suites here will be ideal - they are of a very generous size!

Let me know if you would like any more information.

Several years ago we took the children to Wynham Morgan Bay in St Lucia - now called St James Morgan Bay. It was very geared up to children which is why we haven't been back and it is very very reasonably priced.

I am starting to think we should just stick with what we know best...WDW!!!!

However, whenever we go there to relax, swim, lounge around etc, we ALWAYS end up back in the parks!

We are the same, do not want to go anywhere else (quite fancy New York though). We do not spend an excessive amount of time at WDW, our son Joshua loves Universal also and we do try and travel around a bit too.

Find staying in a villa does help us relax though and we do sit and watch Josh play in the pool etc

Agree with Gilld that St james in st lucia is lovely for kids, my sons favourite holiday (apart from WDW, of course) was this years cruise on P&Os ocean village, 2 weeks from barbados around the caribbean, did loads of different stuff (swam with dolphins, went down in a submarine, jet boats etc) and the entertainment and facilities (and the food - yum!) were great, there were places you could go that were adult only and of course the kids clubs are well supervised, they can't really get lost 'cos they can't get off the ship!
great holiday for families, would thoroughly recommend it

Yes, I think Carol is right. Although we didn't take our children on a cruise when they were young enough to still come with us, I KNOW they would have loved it. It's hard for them to get into trouble, and I have seen children complain bitterly when removed from the kids clubs for whatever reason, giving the parents a restful holiday too.

The downside of P&O/Ocean Village is that they use ghastly charter airlines. You could look at carnival, who do "fun cruises", are very cost effective and usually fly scheduled.

very true Gill, but you can upgrade on most of them, or if its a summer cruise in the med then a 2 hour flight to PMI is not so bad

We stayed here two years ago - it's actually now called the Almond at Morgan Bay!

We'll certainly be visiting here or the Windjammer Resort on St Lucia again.

There was tons for the little ones to do, a really great kiddies club, split into different age groups. They seemed to be having a great time, both day and evening if you wanted it.

The rooms (we had an ocean view) were large, very nicely laid out and quiet. HUGE beds (so nice we went out and bought something similar when we got back home ;) ), beautiful flowers and petals over the bed and bathroom when we arrived.

ALL the staff were incredibly friendly - couldn't do enough for you. There are three pools in the lovely grounds, loads of different water and beach based activities.

Three different restaurants, even the main buffet restaurant served reasonable food. It was smart casual dress in the evening, which I really liked. Evening entertainment for everyone . . . . OMG, I want to go back now ;)

Just moving this across to UK Community.

Great thread as I am looking for other ideas to WDW ;) not too seriously though :teeth:

We just like going to Florida - not necessarily just WDW - cannot imagine going anywhere else for a few years yet.

Must visit New York one day though.

I would also love to visit New York and Las Vegas. One day maybe :flower:

Hiya,

The Balearics are so handy for a quick and easy beach break. :goodvibes I can thoroughly recommend Thomson Superfamily at Hotel/Club Don Toni in Ibiza and the Aparthotel Bonaire in Cala Bona, Majorca.

Both are fab and perfect for a relaxing holiday. Hotel/Club Don Toni is right on the beach - my girls seemed to deposit half the beach in the bath!! :rotfl:

Any questions just ask away.

We cant seem to find the time to visit family in Spain since our recent WdW trip....Maybe we can pencil them in for.....2009? :rotfl:

Rob

I notice you are in the planning stage for October 2006!!! Have you any ideas where you are planning to go????

I too would like to visit friends in Spain but find it hard to get the time.

Other destinations apart from WDW??????? I would like eventually to have one holiday to WDW and one to somewhere else each year. DH would like to go skiing but I really don't like it. Perhaps a city break in Europe would be nice?

Susan

Anywhere in particular you fancy for a City Break Susan?

We are facing the same dilema to at the minute. Our next visit isn't until Nov 06 so are planning a trip for either Feb (sking) or June (beach). Problem is I am always comparing EVERYTHING to Florida :guilty: At the minute though can't decide but if we do go for a beach jolly will probably look at Majorca for a week.
