especially the resort gift shops. I mean cold medicines, stuff for indigestion etc. I'm wondering if I should pack that all that stuff which hopefully we won't need or just stick to tyelnol and benadryl which I'm sure we will need at one point and buy anything else at the resorts IF needed.

Trying to cut down on this massive list of things I have on my packing list...

Definitely bring your own. You can get small travel packs of OTC or just buy small quantities.

I haven't had a cold at WDW, but I was at a conference once and had to buy Sudafed and Tylenol at the hotel gift shop and it was just under $30. Definitely made me feel even sicker.

There was a small variety of Cold, Pain, Fever and Stomach relief med's at the gift shop, however they were very expensive.

I took a little of everything, we all use a decongestant when we fly, the I got a cold and ended up buying additional decongestants for. Not a big variety but they were name brand.

I always bring my own...will I need it maybe not but I am not spending $5 for 2 advils! I bring Nyquil,Pepto,Tylenol,Rolaids and a non-drowsy sinus med. I buy the small bottles and bring them with me becuase if something is gonna happen it will be when the store is CLOSED!!!!

Ain't it the truth! Kids only get sick on Friday nights after the Dr. has gone for the weekend or when you are a gazillion miles from home! :rolleyes1

I say only take the things that you are likely to need. If you know you take Tylenol often, bring it. Don't go out and buy everything you might need.

Yes, it's expensive, but why bring a ton of stuff you probably won't need?

If you are the type of folks who take medicine at the drop of a hat, then by all means, bring your arsenal...but if you are like me and rarely if ever take OTC meds, then bring some headache meds and that's it. (tylenol, advil, whatever your choice)

If you are actually sick, who cares if it costs a couple bucks more? At that point, that's the least of your worries. Now, not that saving money isn't important, but if you are more worried about space in your luggage, the entire medicine cabinet is one thing that can easily be taken off the packing list. You're not going to Antarctica.

My family jokes with me that I'm a walking pharmacy. For our upcoming trip, my DH bought me a 7 day pill organizer and I have put a few of the standbys in each day. Tylenol Monday, Advil Tuesday, etc. I need to keep Benedryl with me at all times anyway due to an allergy to insect bites and that way I can keep small amounts with me in the parks. I will keep small bottles in my toiletry bag at the hotel. These are all things we keep on hand at home anyway, so why pay so much if we end up needing them when we are there.

Thanks for the feedback.

I think I will take adult and childrens pain relievers and benadryl and probably some children's cold medicine just because I have only found one kind that works for dd without wiring her up. If we DO need anything else we will buy it there. I think I'm with the poster who said if I'm that miserable I won't mind paying and if I don't need it won't have to carry it around.

Bring a small supply of the things you use at home. You might not be able to find exactly what you want, and would probably have to pay "an arm and a leg" for the stuff you do buy. It wouldn't take up too much room in the suitcase, but I bet you'll be glad you brought it!

I am bringing Advil, Benedryl, Immodium AD, and a thermometer. I have a bad back so I need to have enough Advil on hand for 800 mg each dose. DS is old enough now that he can swallow an adult Advil so if he has a headache or fever he will take one of the 200 mg caplets. I bought the Benedryl specifically for the trip since some folks are reporting really itchy bug bites. The Immodium is left over from the last trip but it is still in date so I figure I'll bring it.

I have thought about bringing some Pepto or some other stomach remedy - I am still on the fence about it. I guess that is something we can buy at WDW if we have to.

I pack Tyl Sleep, meclizine, and Advil/Motrin. I figure that anything else we need we can get there. We've never needed anything else. We're a pretty healthy bunch, though.

We bring everything. It does not take up much room and is so worth it. I just keep a small bag packed with everything and keep track of expiration dates so I move it to our household supply when it is nearing the date and then replace it for the travel bag. DD (16) has a very sensitive system and we never know what she will need. Don't forget something like neosporin in case of scratches. Waterproof bandaids too. We like certain meds (Maalox for stomach for example) so it is nice to have what we know works. Of course we are the people who bring a heating pad for Florida as well. (really.)

Bring your own!

My wife is a physician, and she takes a small pharmacy with us every time we travel. She keeps it all in an extra toiletry bag in our carry-on.

They have EVERYTHING I tell ya.

Ok, this is embarrassing for me to say, but I will share it. Right before we went to WDW I was put on a mega antibiotic for a stomach virus and sure enough, the day after we arrive, I got a yeast infection. Whodathunk to pack something for that? Well, the POR store had monistat :thumbsup2 Thank God!!!!!! It was $16 though, but the best $16 I ever spent. I would have been miserable for my entire vacation.

Sorry if it's TMI, just wanted ya'll to know they do carry about everything.

We stayed at DBV, the little shop they have inside (Dundy's Sundries) had a fair selection of cold meds (case in point, two years ago, I got the last bottle of cough medicine...I guess it was going around). They are a bit pricey (our most recent trip which was 2 weeks ago, we purchased a bottle of robitussin for $8.95...in wal-mart or target it's no more than $5.00. One of the store clerks also told me that they deal directly with a pharmacist, and if there is anything else we needed that wasn't there, they could call the pharmacist, and for an additional $5.00 charge, we could get what we needed. :moped:

Just call me one of those "paranoid" dudes - I don't go anywhere without a firstaid kit - and that includes OTC meds - as well as my prescription med. And when i say anywhere - I mean where I go, IT goes - the smallest part fits in an altoids tin

Think of it as cheap insurance

some mole skin, a few bandaids, a 4x4 gauze pad, some neosporin, some benydril, some sudafed, a golf pencil, some paper, a needle, some dental floss, a SMALL flashlight (LED type), a $20, a couple of singles, 2 quarters, a dose of immodium - if you pack carefully, it ALL fits in the altoids tin - that is on me everywhere I go

If I have my backpack or waistbelt with me, I have more bandages etc... Along with EMT shears and the like

We always take a small box with antacid, tylenol, bandaids, antibiotic ointment, moleskin, liquid bandage, chap stick and a few other tid bits. I refuse to bring cold medicine...BAD CARMA!!! But yes, we have had to buy it at WDW and never had a problem finding it, either liquid or capsule form, a little pricey but worth every penny at the time!! They also stock cough/throat drops....

We did discover on our last trip that each store within the entire resort has a medicine kit under their counter and the prices weren't terrible (or maybe it was because my mom was so sick we didn't notice - but we usually do!). The kit had almost everything you could possibly need if you forgot or didn't bring it with you.

But I tend to find that taking just a small ziplock baggie of the necessities is better than buying a small packet of advil because my muscles are tired and sore at the end of the day or because I have a headache :) I usually take the following OTCs:

-Advil (after a day at the parks or a headache from the heat!)
-Tums or Pepsid AC (for yummy food that fights back)
-Immodium (yummy food that fights back worse)
-band aids (small blisters, scratches, hangnails, etc)
-anti itch (I am a buffet for mosquitos)
-advil cold & sinus (just because it's simple for any sniffles you might get)
