OT: You've got some 'splaining to do!

I suppose, I must do what Lucy does every episode of her show...do some 'splainin.

OK, as you all know I'm direct. I don't like going through hoops, putting on fancy airs (although my English teachers have been telling me for years I use too many words in my writing), and I will not hold my tongue about an issue if it concerns me and I can express myself without flaming someone.

There is something, brought to my attention this afternoon, which perfectly illustrates the 3rd of my "I don't do it list." Today I've been alerted that there is a group of at least 7 CLs and maybe heavens more that my signature picture worries them and/or angers them.

So...I would love to take this opportunity to explain myself and my signature. I am, if you knew me in real life, very snarky and express myself through sarcasm and witty comments all the time. It's in my nature to say what I feel through parody and satire. And because I'm like this in real life, you may have seen what I'm like here on the boards. I'll be funny and blunt, but I want to make sure that people understand where my social commentary comes from and I want to make sure that if someone were to be offended by one of my comments I can help clear the waters.

My signature post...and the infamous quote of "CL_FlyThenFall: the rogue community leader. Here to make sure egos stay in check," is a tongue-in-cheek analysis of the events and my observations of the infamous "community leader meeting" a little while ago. In my opinion, many of the community leaders have taken their title to a level that's not quite authorized by the VMK. While we were in the meeting so many of the people there were begging for inside information, to become testers, to get the newest and coolest things...because they were community leaders. I felt this was totally out of place, because VMK_Babs repeatedly said that we are not special in anyway what so ever. We are only special because we can impart our knowledge about VMK and the Disney Way to everyone!

So, I decided to make a new sig pic for myself...and because of my conversation with the lovely NikkiBell that morning I photoshopped my pic and put in the new wording, with the words VMK probably wouldn't let me say in the game. (I.E. rogue and egos)

My point is to the people who are offended with my sig pic, is that it is totally tongue-in-check and it isn't meant to offend anyone. In fact, I believe if it is offensive to you, you should take some time to reexamine yourself...maybe a little head deflating is order too. I mean, I am far from innocent in how I seem to create controversy...but for something innocent like my signature picture tagline causing someone to send me a very nasty IM about it makes me scratch my head.

So, this extremely long post is an open letter to all of you in internetland. If you have ANY problem with me, I would LOVE to chat with you either through AIM or PMs or whatever. All my contact information is in my public profile and I would love to hear from you!

LOL, I just wonder why anyone first off, wastes the emotions and time to be offended by an internet signature such as yours. Then second, takes the time to write or message or whatever telling you how much they are offended

Maybe these people that are complaining should be looking at themselves more and they will probably find they are offended because they fall into the category of large egos, hence their personal afront.

At the end of the day it's just a joke and if that is all they have to get worried about then to be honest they're really not worth giving a second thought to. It would be interesting to know if the ones that are upset are the same ones that were asking for all the stuff.

I have no problems with the signature, and actually like it just fine. It's your sig to do with as you wish: nobody is attacked, nobody is singled out, and the general message is appropriate (that there is no place for arrogance).

I like the way TheWolf put it. Any strong, negative response to the sig probably says more about the person responding to the sig than the person bearing the sig.

I would give any criticism you've been given a great, big <SHRUG>, and wouldn't bother wasting any more of your time responding to it.

Edited to add: I just realized that I do take offense with the signature. How can you have the gall to call yourself "The Rogue..." if there are others, including myself, who agree with you? I demand that you change it!

JK, you go ahead and delude yourself with being The Rogue if you want to.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone demanded i change my vmk name one day because they are lactose intelorant. Don't sweat it fly.

I agree, if someone takes offense with an internet sigline, then they a)obviously need more productive ways to spend their time, and b) need to ask themselves why they would be so offended by a comment that is meant to be a reality check to those very people in the first place. I think the people most offended by it would be those with the overwhelming desire to feel different or special in the first place, and by creating controversy over your sig they have done exactly that. I would pay them no attention.

Nikki, I think you might be in the wrong rooms. I myself, have seen friends who have taken their new found "status level" to a whole new level. I'm so glad you're having a much more positive CL experience, because many times I'm distressed with the behavior of some of the CLs.

If anything, it's a humorous look at the entire community leader program and I'm glad so many of you can laugh along with me, which is of course is the message of my sig. Laughter can do wonders to change a social situation, which is my purpose.

In all seriousness, Fly, I too was in that meeting and just shook my head over it. Sadly, it is the way things are. There are those who inflate and there are those who just keep going as they always have. A bit of levity and tongue-in-cheek is always good. That you have learned the vital gift of being able to laugh at yourself and not take things too seriously is great. Keep at it and don't worry about those who are "offended". There will always be those who are the quickest to point fingers and get upset. Generally, they are the ones who need to stare longest and hardest in the mirror.

As to your verbosity in your literary efforts, hey, some of us actually make a living stringing words together. Just keep a sharp eye on those adverbs and adjectives and don't let them populate your writing so much that they obscure your points.

As a CL I realized that I would have no special powers, rights or goodies.
I just wanted to be a person who could help new players
*At the start I was one of the people who: answered the questions in the emporium, tried to use the magic words without the pins, couldn't figure out where to buy the darn camera, didn't know you could get credits by clicking on the characters, couldn't figure out how to buy anything but clothes or use the 'spell' room.....if it hadn't been for the DIS I would probably still be wandering around aimlessly

Fly, everytime I read something you have written it never ceases to amaze me. You are so wise beyond your years, and more mature than quite a few adults I know!
In any case, I will have to echo what the others have said: Don't let that one Community Leader (or "group" of Leaders, although I seriously doubt this) get you down. Obviously if this person is offended by your signature they need to step back and take a look at themselves. Perhaps they are taking this a little too personally?

However she does fall into the "Queen of Babble-on" mode frequently (here and in real life). As to topic, I'll comment on the sig line as soon as I've found the stamina to read it all at one sitting! I've fallen asleep three times!

I'm with you, CaptinJack. REAL leaders just go quietly about their leading and don't need to comment one way or another.
