OT: Why are there so many OT's?

Just posting to this thread feeds into the OT posts but..................

I COMPLETELY AGREE!

BUDGET BOARD!

KEEP IT THAT WAY!

some people are more comfortable here than on the community board. they have different tones. KWIM? a while back i remember someone posting that they would like to see a sub-board for all the OT threads but nothing came of it.

I think the vibe on the board is different. The community board is a snarky bunch. Here, people seem to be a little more level-headed!

Honestly, if the post is clearly marked as "OT", why does it bother you?

I have seen people complain that the board is no longer about budget tips at Disney and is more about budget tips in general. :confused3 What are we suppose to talk about?

This is a community of generally like minded individuals. You get to know the people here, so people are interested in opinions from their budget board friends.

Personally of all the boards on the DIS this on is probably the LEAST focused. I generally try not to open the "junke" but I wanted to say I agree with OP.... This board needs some focus. The "budget" stuff is lost in the "my third grade teacher from 20 years ago hates me" threads (Yes I made that up!)

I completely agree. It really grinds my gears when I see OT posts. While this is OT, I'm glad it was addressed. I now know it isn't just me!:offtopic:

I don't know, I post on both boards regularly but sometimes I will post a thread over here first, because I want a more budget minded answer. Let's say I am talking about how my car is dying..whatever..and I need a new one, I need some budget ideas not just to go buy a new car. This board seems more in the same walk of life I am in, (meaning, bogged down by kid related bills! :rotfl2: ) where on the community board there are so many people who either aren't there yet or are past that point. I am poor, I have three kids! :rotfl2: They suck every dollar out of me! :rotfl:

if it's all budget savings for Disney, there's not many posts; if it's all budget in general so we have more money to go to Disney, it gets boring IMHO. If it's all OT, well that's annoying also. I usually try to post budget posts to nudge it along. LOL.

In general, the board is mostly budget with some OT's thrown in. It's nice when there's a mix. Sometimes it's heavy on the OT, but it usually evens it self out. Hang in there.

It's my favorite board on the DIS. I check here almost daily. Sometimes nothing interests me, sometimes I learn something, something I am able to share information and sometimes I completely disagree with a LOT of it, but I don't respond to those, I don't feel that would be helpful....that seems to be the draw of the community board, to debate. So, I almost NEVER go to the community board.

A post like this pops up every few months. It's really not that hard to scroll through the messages, even if, eek, you have to click on page 2 or 3 to read budget related or even OT that interest you.

As an OT poster sometimes, I can tell you that I tried the community board first, but they are a little harsh over there! I like supportive, helpful answers! Plus, budget boarders are a pretty resourceful bunch, which I appreciate.

I get info off the Budget board that I can apply to daily life - not just when I'm planning Disney trips. And I just skip the OT posts that don't interest me (come to think of it, I skip ANY post that doesn't interest me!).

It's not so much the "budget" topic as the "budget" mindset for me. I think that this group of people is more the group of people that I relate to, so they would give advice that would be more helpful. Plus, the comm. board gets loaded pretty fast and some aren't the friendliest.

Honestly, I skip over anything that doesn't interest me. I find a lot of the OT posts quite interesting. And some of the on topic stuff not interesting (especially all the fridge and photo pass share threads.) I don't think its a big deal.

I don't see the big deal. The subject line tells you what the particular post is about, skip it if it's not for you ::yes:: Most subjects are about Budget related stuff, but like others have mentioned, you post here long enough and become more comfortable with the people on this particular board.

Because the mods on the budget boards are very mellow and don't mind. The other boards have die-hard mods and seem to boot OT posts ASAP.

I agree -- this is the board that I check first. I don't have any Disney trips planned right now, but I still check out the budget board for the sales/deals!! Love it!!:cool1:

I agree that it's nice to seek the advice or vent with dis-friends and since you spend a lot of time on this board you may enjoy the perspectives of certain posters that are here as well. However, the mods on this board have asked several times for the OT's to let up because they are going to have to get more strict and boot them.

I like the idea of a sub board or stickied OT thread.

My issue is more about the fact that the mods have asked and people don't seem to be posting any less OT's.

I enjoy the budget-mindedness of this board and while it does have a lot of OT (which some of them could/should go to the community board) some of them are sorta/kinda (LOL) relavant to the budget board.

For instance, I start a OT about American Girl dolls and someone tells me about a sale/code,etc. That would NEVER happen on the community board, they'd all debate about indulging your child, the dolls are made in China, etc.

Ditto! This is my favorite and I have come to think of everyone as my friends.

Try the community board it's not that bad:goodvibes

I frequent both boards although I don't post as much here.
