My Boyfriend and I were thinking that we would like to make our own Ribs for Dinner at home tomorrow night. I know that you have to boil them before they are put on the grill and everything....but where can I buy them?? Also, if anyone could possibly tell me exactly what I have to do (how long to boil, how long on the grill, recipes, etc) I would appreciate it.

PS. Can you tell we are a young couple who aren't too bright in the cooking area. HEHE!!

Head over to your local grocery and chances are you'll find some that all you have to do is heat up. I buy mine at Target...they are yummy!

Make sure you purchase baby backs.
Put in oven on 275 for 3 hours
Take out and pour sauce on them and put them back in for 15 minutes.

add a little slaw, baked beans and some corn bread and you got yourself a great meal.

Thanks for the tips - sounds DELICIOUS!!

Is there any way to cook them outside on the grill??

My DH makes them all the time. First pork ribs have more meat on them. We like the country style. If you are grilling make sure that they have bones. Boil them for about 30 minutes or long enough to be about half done. Drain them. The next part is personal preference but this what we do. We coat them with dry seasonings. You can use mesquite seasonings or create your own blend. Then you put them on the grill for about 15 minutes per side. After they come off brush them with BBQ sauce (otherwise the sauce will burn plus you get a mess on the grill). Now time and temp will vary as we use a gas grill.

THANK YOU!! Everyone has been a big help...but we were looking to do them on the grill so your post was exactly what we were looking for!! Now I'm excited...I bet they will be amazing!!

What is all this talk of boiling ribs? Ribs put into boiling water will seize up and be kinda tough. I think what you are trying to do is slowly break down the muscle using low heat combined with moisture.

The way I have done this at home is to use a large baking pan filling with about an inch or two of water and placing in the oven over low heat 250* or so for about 3 hours. They come out so tender you think you would have purchased babybacks. Spread on your favorite sauce and grill for about 5 minutes each side to glaze with sticky sauce.

Enjoy.

Yes I am from TN, yes I have had my own BBQ restaurant.

What type of ribs do you buy ? After you put water in pan do you cover with foil ? Do you put any seasoning on the ribs before you cook them ?

I buy western style pork ribs and put them in the crock pot on high for five hours or in the oven covered for two hours at 350 degrees. I add seasoning while precooking them (garlic powder or fresh diced garlic). Then when they are almost falling apart tender I grill them with bbq sauce for about 10-15 minutes. I like ribs that don't have bones, I just put foil on the grill in case the meat falls apart. I would never boil any meat that I wanted to tenderize, pre-cooking them in a covered dish in the oven will guarantee they are tender. I don't add any water to the baking dish or crock pot, the ribs usually create a lot of juice of their own.

Please, please don't boil ribs, it makes me cringe just thinking about it. Cook them at 200 - 275 until tender, about 3-5 hours.

Costco has the best ribs around here, but Walmart has good pork shoulder if you want something cheaper. Ribs are horribly expensive these days and a real treat.

We have always bolied them and have never had a problem. I tried to crockpot them once and they fall apart..kind of hard when you want to grill them.

Would boneless pork ribs be cooked the same way? Low heat for 3-4 hours? I have a family size pack that I bought at Sam's and I haven't a clue how to cook them but the price was right!

Baby back ribs are more expensive, but they are well worth it.

Buy a slab of ribs, put them in a large baking pan and cover them tightly with foil. DO NOT BOIL baby backs or add any water to the pan, because you will remove all of the flavor of the meat.

Cook in an oven for 2-3 hours at 300 degrees or until fork tender.

We then take the ribs and throw them on the grill, slather on lots of barbque sauce and grill them until they are nice and crusty.

I also season the ribs before I cook them in the oven. I put on salt and pepper, garlic powder and some dried oregano, etc. You can use whatever seasoning you like.

I also stock up on a certain sauce (Tom's) that you can only buy in Florida. We love it because it's not sweet.

Okay, I have nothing useful to add to the cooking tips.

But it's not even 9:30 am and I am DYING to have some grilled ribs!!!

I go to Applebees and have them for lunch, with out the sides, I always order them burnt!!!

APPLEBEE'S RIBLETS $8.99
A hearty portion of our famous Riblets basted with Applebee's Signature honey Barbecue Sauce .

Okay so I went to Big Y (my local Supermarket) today and they had the Baby Back Ribs that are already cooked and you can either put them in the oven or put them on the grill to heat them up. I bought those (they are $16.99 but they were Buy 1 Get 1 Free so I couldn't resist). We are going to put them on the grill tonight to heat them up and whatnot so I'll let you guys know how they turn out!!

:thumbsup2 Now that's my kind of cooking!

I buy baby back ribs at a warehouse club usually for 2.99 a pound. I shake a dry rub on both sides and put them into my smoker at 200 to 250 degrees for 3 to 4 hours. I smoke with apple or peach wood for a good smokey flavor. As soon as the meat starts to pull away from the bone I put on my favorite sauce and throw them on the grill to get that good crispy sauce glaze on them. After 15 or 20 minutes on the grill, I pull them off and wrap them in heavy duty aluminum foil for 15 minutes to rest. I usually do 3 to 6 slabs at a time and vacuum seal the leftovers. Never boil ribs...

Costco here sells a 3 pack of ribs, great stuff too. I generally cook 2 slabs at a time. Cutting into 4 makes it easy for serving. I've never ever boiled ribs. Having been part of a Kansas City BBQ Society event I can't imagine why. I dry rub the ribs, let the sit for 24 hours if possible. Put on the BBQ and let them slow cook, indirect heat is the best and of course a Tragger is ideal. We had ribs and chicken last night - yumm.
