anyone have any great bags, backpacks, totes that they use when flying? I've never flown w/the kids before and I want to be as hands-free and organized as possible. TIA!

I am the completly wrong person to ask about this. i want to try the mini hipster next time we fly. but i am a way over packer! sorry i'm no help at all.

I actually have the kids bring their own back pack with snacks, toys, lovies. I usually travel with something Vera. Either a diaper bag, which is like a big tote, or backpack. Her stuff is very durable and always has a lot of pockets to keep organized.

I have the mommy bag. It's a carryon bag that opens at the top like a doctors bag. I bought it at Target a few years ago, sadly it has no markings on it so I can't point you in the right direction.

Basically it zippers at the top and hinges open so you have a big open space. It has a zipper pocket in the front and a magnetic pocket on the back. Inside it have open pockets on each end, down the sides, and one zippered pocket.

You want something big enough to carry a full size coloring book, that's how I judge for length.

Are you flying alone?

I had a wheeling backpack for each kid, and they had their own things in there. I liked the wheeling ones, because they could manuver them all by themselves, no Mom, carry this, it's heavy. Is there a regulation about those things now? They really were a huge help! I had one too, along with a HUGE purse, for the rest of the stuff.

Plus, I had a box of gallon ziplock baggies to help keep things organized.

thanks guys! Buffy, no, i'm just thinking ahead to our upcoming WDW trip when we are flying instead of driving, so it will be the 4 of us.
I was thinking something Vera for my purse, maybe the hipster so it could go across my body, and some kind of tote/backpack. (I keep checking the vera website for clearance on the retired styles!!)

Yes, I think the kids will each have their own backpack or something...we want to have a change of clothes and the overnight necessities in case something happens to the luggage. I'm just never flown w/the kids!! Ack!

I pack clothes for the day in the big 2 gallon ziplocks. I love it, just pull out the Tues bag (or whatever) and here's your shirt, undies, socks, etc, now get dressed! :thumbsup2

When we flew w/ the three little ones.. DS8 was 3 at the time... all the kids had their own backpacks w/ their goodies and a change of clothes in it..
I had a diaper bag that I could sling over my shoulder.. DH had the booster for little guy... and he had an over night bag.. I had a system down and got through security w/ the 3 kids no issue.. DH was the issue.. he was so worried about us getting through.. he forgot to empty his pockets... so of course the kids never let him live that down!

DD brings a rolling bag with things to play with; books, games, etc.

DH and I carry backpacks so we are as hands free as possible.

Try ebay. I have purchased all my Vera off ebay for great prices. I love the large back pack.

I do this too!:thumbsup2 And I second Vera for travel. My DD12 has her own Vera stuff and uses her VB backpack for travel. :)

I use a very small carry-on bag that I wheel on. It fits easliy under the seat ahead of me and I can get into it during the flight. I have a problem using anything bigger, because if I have to put a bag in the overhead, I always hit some guy in the head when I'm taking it down from the bin (no upper arm strength!). It only leaves one hand free while I'm walking through the airport, though, so that's probably not helpful to you. I use this on every trip, not just WDW.
