I think if anything the OP's hub should feel a little hurt. He did go to some effort to do nice things and in return what he got was someone pouting about not hearing the words "Happy Mothers' Day." It does seem a little petty. To me it would seem as if the effort I went to was unappreciated, and I would be defensive, too. OP, you should count your blessings.
