Sounds like you found a GREAT happy medium!
I've gone back and forth about putting ds in preschool this year. He's currently 3 (siggy shows their ages when at WDW) and he's a very difficult child. His maturity level is NO WHERE near that of my dd at the same age and I am just not confident enough that he can handle going to school right now. I'm actually more fearful for the teachers since he is so difficult than I am for him being at school
He's as smart as a whip so it's not academic. I need him there for socialization and to learn how to listen and take orders. Problem is he's in an activity now and maybe because he knows I'm there he just acts out but if he decides while there he doesn't want to do what the instructors are telling him he just throws himself down and throws a tantrum. Its very stressful when I have dd who is basically an angel and always has been. It's like a culture shock raising a son
If my ds was ready there is no question I'd put him in school. I can't even begin to tell you all the things dd learned and did last year. I was so amazed. Another of my thoughts after reading all the responses was maybe the program dd is in isn't right for ds. Every child is different and they all thrive in different environments. DD needed to be challenged. She needed more academics than socialization. They have very little free play at my preschool and more activities which was a draw for dd. She loves to be busy with coloring or pasting or worksheets. Those things keep her busy for hours! Ds has minimal interest. He is engaged for like 5 mins tops then on to his next interest. He does extremely well at the gym I go to in their daycare. The ladies all love him and tell me how well behaved he is and so forth. I just tell them he's well behaved because you are letting him play with all these toys and not giving him any orders or instructions.
Anyway...sorry to hijack. I found this topic to be very informative and helpful in ways.
I'd definitely send him in January if you think he's ready. I hope mine is ready by then as my preschool has spots open and I definitely want him in their pre-k and will be crushed if I lose a spot for next year.
Good luck!
