OT--what does your 5 1/2 yr old girl play with?

Notice, no electronics...none of my kids had TVs or Gameboys until they were at least 11. I just don't think they help build a child's brain creatively.

This has been our philosophy too. I am wondering, though, if I shouldn't be making a better effort to expose my dd4 to the computer. My dh and I use our work laptops (so the kids don't touch them) and dd4 really doesn't ever have any experiences with computers other than observing us. I'm not so concerned at age 4, but I wonder at what age we should buy her computer for word processing, guided, supervised e-mailing (to grandma), and guided internet access.[/QUOTE]

My nephew age 4 has a computer class in his pre-school...i was shocked when i heard it...but he's really good with the computer now....Nothing fancy...but i think i will help him in the future
as for 6yr old girls i say art supplies...

DD had a Disney princess theme for her 5th birthday. Was totally into Disney princess "polly pockets" and Barbie-sized dolls. By 5 1/2 she was over the princesses and into My Little Pony. Her 6th birthday was in July and she was over My Little Pony and wanted only craft supplies. She still loves the craft supplies and toy-wise plays mostly with stuffed animals. Sigh... She may change preferences constantly, but at least she let me get rid of all her HUGE My Little Pony playsets!!!! I think for Christmas I'll get her an mp3 player. Maybe she can collect music instead of a bunch of toys she'll lose interest in within 6 months!
