My DS lost his first tooth this morning, and the tooth fairy needs a little help around here. What's the going rate for a tooth these days? Does the first tooth warrant a little more since it's special? Or, does anyone have any other tooth fairy traditions that they could share?

Disers seem to have the best ideas, so I'm all ears! :earsboy:

TIA!!! :goodvibes

The going rate in our house is $1.00. With the first tooth, each of my kids got a tooth fairy pillow. The pillow sits on their dresser, easy for the tooth fairy to find the tooth and put money in the pillow! HTH

Our tooth fairy also brings a dollar for each tooth. I have a friend who's kids all get a whistle when they lose their first tooth. That way, they'll still be able to whistle, even with a tooth gone!

When I was a kid it was 1 silver dollar.

But now...there is nothing a kid can buy that's not complete junk (or candy) for $1. So we decided on $1 gold coin for each year of age, plus a dental type thing (toothbrush, floss, etc.).

DD is 5 now. She lost her first 2 teeth at 4. She has 8 gold dollar coins and doesn't want to spend them because they are "special". I guess this will get expensive at somepoint...but whatever...you only loose all your teeth once (hopefully!).

We gave $10 for the first tooth. Let me tell you I am shocked with DS's kids in his class $10- 20 a tooth every time!!!! YIKES!!!

$1 a tooth in our house. My DD saves every penny she earns.

Congrats on the lost tooth!!

We gave $20 for the first tooth and we will give anywhere from $1-5 for the rest. This last tooth my DD8 lost brought her $6 Disney Dollars....she wrote a note to the tooth fairy asking for Disney Dollars and we told her she may have to wait...she was fine with that and patiently waited a few days for the TF to bring her DD to her! LOL

The Tooth Fairy just visited our house last night again! She leaves one gold dollar coin for each tooth, along with copious "pixie dust" and sometimes little tiny notes. The Tooth Fairy likes to collect teeth for her projects, so she usually tells DD what this tooth will be used for. For the first tooth, the Tooth Fairy also left a few small trinkets that she had lying around. ;)

My dd keeps insisting the tooth fairy is going to bring her a CAR! She says the tooth fairy can park it outside and just put the keys under her pillow.

If this is true I need to have a "chat" with the tooth fairy from a few years ago LOL. I never got a car!

We also give the $1 dollar coins, specifically the new Presidentail coins (maybe that's what other posters meant by gold coins?) Anyway, I belong to a credit union and they do not carry these coins; I had to call around to several banks to track them down.

Good luck!!

We base the price of the cleanliness of the tooth. It helps to insure they are brushing their teeth daily. It ranges from a quarter to 3 dollars.

I believe the $1 gold coins have Sacajewia (sp.) and her baby on them.

$1 each - but we always put the tooth in a glass beside the bed so it doesn't get lost - it makes it much easier for the tooth fairy to find;)

In our house the first tooth gets a 2 dollar bill, a dollar coin, and 2 one dollar bills, each tooth after that gets a dollar.
