To the troops and their families, and to those who we have lost during the fight.
It is good to close this chapter.
Mike

The cost of Freedom is high. We should remember today not the evil leaders, but the innocent, the courageous, those that have given their lives for our way of life.
There is always be evil in the world. I pray that there will always be people who will stand up for what we believe. To all of you who have lost loved ones, or who have been burdened by your sacrifices, I salute you and I pray for you

So it's not okay to ask Canadians to vote (my thread was closed), but it IS okay to promote assassinations? Good to know.

Of course, please keep in mind, you are welcome to start and pay for your very own Discussion Board to post whatever nonsense you like.

I will mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that." -Martin Luther King Jr.

I'm glad he's dead. Been a long time coming, but I celebrate. Woo hoo.

And I, too, thank the guys who are brave enough to go and fight. It's easy to stand behind the big, bad, brave men and say, "I'm not scared of you, bad guys!" It's another thing to be that man - the one who goes out there to find and kill the bad guys.

Whatever life we lead, whatever we're doing, we owe the fact that we can do it to the guys who go out there and make sure we can. I think they sometimes wonder if we've forgotten that. We haven't, guys. Not all of us.

The wrong people get paid millions of dollars. Idiots who can bounce balls and act like they're bad get paid millions and the actual tough guys have wives standing in line for food stamps. Something is very wrong there. :sad2:

We pay you almost nothing and still you protect us.

Thank you to all the members of our military.

Nice quote, but this was never said by MLK, it is a fabrication.

BTW, discussions of politics and religion are not allowed.

My thoughts, too. I feel a black knot inside me at any joy I have about Bin Laden's death. Yet, I am glad he can't mastermind another plot. Still, I worry there are others out there who will do us harm.

Totally agree here, too.

Also agree that this thread is getting closed to being closed.
Asking people to vote is being responsible, not political.

Thats my original point!!! It's okay to celebrate killing someone, but god forbid I ask someone to vote.

We sure do have a different opinion on this thread.

I read it as a thank you to the men and women that put their lives on the line everyday in order to protect our freedoms, as well as the sacrifices their families make. You read it as a political and religious statement celebrating a killing.

I will say this, seeing the NYC skyline on my way to work yesterday, did make me smile for the first time in almost 10 years.

Actually despite the politicians trying to take credit for this win (or I'm sure planning to in the future) this was down to the intelligence community and our brave military getting the job done. They coordinated a 10 year global manhunt to apprehend the most wanted man on the planet (and by not only the U.S. but just about the entire world) and bring him to justice.

I prefer this quote to the one mentioned above:

"Then how about getting with the program? Why don't you jump on the team and come on in for the big win" - Full Metal Jacket

Good post Frank. I always liked this quote.

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."
-George Orwell

And we thank you for it Paul.

With all the grandstanding and rhetoric that comes out of Washington all of the time it is often forgotten that it isn't the ink on pieces of parchment in DC that give us freedom and security. The bravery and, sadly, blood of our troops have always been the real source of those things. The killing of Bin Laden was a victory for the world delivered to us by the United States Armed Forces.

I am not sure where this was promoted in my post. I stated a very direct thank you to the men and women who have lost their lives protecting what I believe in, and I hope many others do who have chosen to live here (and vacation here).

Please keep in mind, it would likely be the collegues of the men and women of these organizations who would come to your country's defense if you were the victim of a natural or unnatural disaster.

How true.
I know I sleep peaceably trusting the brave men and woman who protect me. No matter what you were told as a child...there really are monsters in the world.

Thank you to Paul and all who Serve.

Somehow I don't see a Federal election as nonsense. I was pointing out the inconsistency in the moderators. Celebrating killings is hardly a Disney value.
Actually, it is.

Bad guys are frequently killed in Disney movies. Good guys die, too, which is very dramatic and sad, but bad guys were always and forever being killed (and in some very cool ways, too, like Ursula being impaled.) And then everyone has the happy ending. :)
