I figure there are a lot of families out there so this would be a great place to ask the question. What is your 12 week/3 month old baby able to do? How do they react to their environment? All the talk about autisim recently made me wonder about a friends baby.

I love the book what to expect the first year...it gives what your baby should be able to do, could be able to do.

My daughter is now 15 weeks old and she is really becoming more active. She can hold her head up good, sit assisted, she loves to stand, we just started putting her in her walker so she can play on her own and she loves that. Every baby develops differently so take what they are or are not doing with an open mind. I have a friend whose 2.5 year old doesn't talk but he can hear and understand perfectly. So it just depends on the child.

That is very important to remember. All kids are different. My dd walked at 8 months and did everything else that early too. My neice was the same age and is very very smart, etc and did things at another pace. I have a friend with an autistic child and she said that her son was on target developmentally until he was 6 months and he stopped cooing, would stare at lights, etc. You just never know.

12 weeks is really too early to be concerned.

DD never crawled, never cruised on the furniture, rarely babbled. Finally walked at 17 months and started talking at 18 months. She is now 27 months and won't stop talking. She is smart and has tested well above her age for cognitive development. I was worried at one point but no more.

That's what this baby boy does. He stares at the lights and doesn't really react to anything or anyone. For example, he doesn't even react differently towards his mom and dad than he would to me or a stranger. I thought that was odd for a three month old.

That's good to know. I'm sure it probably is too soon to be worried which is why I just wanted a refresher course on what babies this age are doing.
