OT-sunless tan

is it dark and natural looking? Let us know how long it really lasts!

The spa I went to lets you choose how light/dark you want to go. I am fair skinned, so I went with "a little color". I think it came out a tad bit darker than that the first day, but since then has lightened some. I think it looks pretty natural and have been told that by several people who knew I got it done. You do have to exfoliate before you go and don't mositurize anywhere that you want tanned. Apparently the spray doesn't stick as well to moisturized areas.

Great thread! I am a redhead too, and I usually use Jergens, but I have also tried the Bath Body Works ones too, which were OK (but they were supposed to be scented, but I thought it smelled bad).

I am inetersted in the spray tan at the salon, I too have a wedding where I am a bridemaid in a strapless dress so I am going to try it for that. I called around and they are from $25 -$35 a time. The $25 one said you have to come in a few days in a row.:scared:

I've tried them all, this year I'm using the new Nivea Sun Kissed Firming lotion for fair skin. It's working good, but it stinks. I'm very fair and if I ever tried to get a real tan outside or in a booth, I would look 20 years older than I am.

I think the whole secret is exfoliating every few days with something like a sugar scrub mixed with olive oil and making sure elbows, knees and ankles have some other type of lotion on them first.

Another TanTowel user. I think this is the single best self tanner on the market. It is clear, does not stain clothes, easy to apply and does not smell. This is formulated to work with your body chemistry so you get your "own" tan coloring. If 2 people were to use the same packet, you would not get the same color tan...it really does look natural and it is great because I use it on my face with no worries!:thumbsup2

I just starting using the equate version of Jergens and I like it so far. It smells a little werid but it's tolerable. I haven't turned orange yet, just a nice hint of color.

Redhead here also... here's my question. When you go to the salon for a spray tan, how do you keep your hands from looking weird? Same thing with at home lotions. When I wash my hands afterwards, they end up lighter than my arms which looks strange to me.

The place I went had this special stuff you sprayed on your hands and feet so they tannned but not weird.

has anyone done Mystic Tan? they offer it at my tanning place but I've never done it. I have enough for a visit (due to referals) and id like to know how it works. thankss! :)

I have very fair skin also. I have tried Dove, Jergens and Aveeno. I really do not like the smell of the Jergens lotion. I do like the smell of Dove, but Aveeno is the only one that does not make my skin itch. I have sensitive skin and I use Aveeno every day year round without the color, but last year I used the Aveeno gradual tanner lotion and I liked it. It did not turn me orange.

Good Luck.

Jeesh I forgot about the itch. I will try the Aveeno.

HMM maybe that is my problem....I do not use the lotion on my knees and ankles ..when you say ankles do you also been the back of your heel and the portion above it? That is my problem area. Do I leave it alone OR do I tan it. I cannot figure out which to do and as a result the it looks stupid either way!

Where can you get TanTowel at? I have been using Jergens and have been pretty happy with it. I still have some troubled spots but am getting the hang of it. I am getting married in June and I have a strapless dress. Normally I would be out tanning as soon as I could but I am also having laser hair removal on my legs so I can't really go to a tanning booth because they want your skin light, no tan with the laser.

I really don't mean to hijack this thread, but what can you tell me about the laser hair removal? I've been thinking about that for the upper lip area. I thought I read it really wasn't permanent though. Any info would be appreciated. Oh, and is it painful?

I'll pm you so we don't get off topic here! :goodvibes

I have tried just about every self tanner and gradual tanner lotion and they all smell to me. They smell good in the bottle, but after a few hours on I smell weird. Not something I can get use to. Are there any that don't smell funny?

The Bath & Body works stuff doesn't smell bad compared to a lot of others I used. Does shaving your legs count for exfoliating?

do the following screw up the look of the spray tan:

suncreen
pool water

ya know...make it look streaky, fade faster....
I already feel like a freak in the summer with scary blinding white legs I don't want to add to the freak look. :lmao: I do all that on my own

I started the Dove just recently. I am very pale. It is so gradual that I don't think anyone can actually mess up with this. I actually can tell a slight difference. The smell seems like normal lotion to me. I do think it feels heavy once on. Like it doesn't really absorb very well.

I would put another type of lotion on those areas first and then at the very end of applying the self-tanner, smooth it over those areas too.

Shaving counts, I think it works better if you you shave afterward though. I'd use a scrubby thing in the shower before I applied it and then shave the next day.

Being in a pool a lot would make this stuff come off easier. Maybe because the chlorine dries the skin? No to sunscreen, at least for me.
