Our State Fair is coming up the end of October. DS will be 10 1/2 months old. We obviously need some type of transportation but not sure if we should take our umbrella stroller or a wagon. Since part of the fairgrounds are dirt/gravel would one work better than the other? We dont have a wagon currently. I saw one that had real tires - this seems more capable of going over the terrain than a stroller. But being a first time mom I have no clue. Does anyone have an opinion?

I want to start off by saying that I live in Hillsborough ( I guess that makes us neighbors). I have used both at the fair. I would not recommend the wagon for a small baby. You would not believe the number of people that will try to cut between you and the wagon behind you. Last year I used a wagon with my two kids (at the time they were 1 and 6). One of us would pull the wagon and the other would walk beside or behind the wagon. I hope this helps.

We have two girls 3 & 4 and have pretty much switched to a wagon in the last 2 1/2 years. Mind you, we have a HUGE wagon that we bought in Penn. from the Amish. Big rubber tires, side rails and fold up padded seat cushions. We took it to the NY state fair two years ago and when it got hot and the girls got tired we just unfolded the seat cushions and the girls stretched out and went to sleep. Great for going thru the gravel, grass, mud and barns. Have one of those clip on stoller umbrellas that we hook on the side for shade. Yes, people cut you off. But they do it with the strollers as well. We also walk with one of us pulling, one of us behind. Never know what the girls will drop over the side. I love this much more than the strollers or the double jogger we had. Sold all of the rest except for the umbrella strollers and those we will use in Disney. Light and easy to travel with.
To keep our little one in the wagon I rigged up one of those shopping cart "baby keeper" things I had and kind of tied her in. Kept her from tipping over or climbing out.
It really is up to you and how your little one is. They have to be comfortable sitting, no seat belts. Good luck! :sunny:

As someone who has been going to the Iowa State Fair since I was a kid, I would recommend a stroller. I think it will be much easier to handle over the terrain and for handling curbs on the sidewalks.

I don't know about your fair, but in Iowa we can have up to 120,000 people a day and it gets really crowded. I think a stroller would work better in these conditions as I think it would be more mobile.

Good luck.
