OT: Storyland/Santa's Village... too babyish for a 9 yr old?

Cape Cod - - we would always stop at Plymoth Plantation, Ocean Spray cranberry bogs, and Edivil Railroad (sp?). Which are all before you reach the Cape. But what I remember the most about my trips to Cape Cod was the family bike trips up and down the Canal (sorry I don't remember the name of the Canal). You know the bridges you cross going onto or off of the Cape, well they are going over a canal from the north to the south side of the cape. On each side there are bike trails you can walk or ride the length of the Canal. If I recall correctly, the one on the Boston side of the Canal is an easier bike trail (much flatter).

It's the Cape Cod Canal. It's beautiful there. One side is the Sagamore bridge and the other is the Bourne Bridge.

Other places to visit in Mass. - We would always go to the various historic places around Mass., there are a ton. In Boston, I enjoyed places like the Science Museum, the aquarium, and the Children's Museum. After traveling around the country I can tell you these are some REALLY good museums for kids. The Big-E in September was always fun (but I would do that as a school field trip, not a family trip). A different experience, but probably one of my most enjoyable as a kid and one I enjoy going back to as an adult, when I travel back to Mass. is Old Sturbridge Village ( www.osv.org ). It is not an amusement park, or a fancy kids place with lots of entertainment, but as a kid I would spend days there exploring. Thinking back to fun family outings around Massachussetts, I think about Old Sturbridge Village first. Amazing how much fun you can have in a place that has no electricity.

Massachussetts is full of places to take the kids. A family outing or vacation does not have to be to some fancy park. Salem, historic sites around Boston, Plymouth, Old Sturbridge Village, Boston Science Museum, Boston Aquarium, Boston Children's Museum, and a handful of odd little places that after the many years since my childhood I can't remember. Have fun staying in New England this summer. I have traveled around the world and across the US. I have lived in New England, the mid-west, and now living in Washington State. Trust me, Massachussetts is a fabulous place to grow up and explore. Enjoy.

I have lived here all my life and I haven't seen most of what this state has to offer. A shame really. Alot of the things I haven't visited since I was in school and that was years ago. Now having my own children I want them to see what MA has to offer. Another sad note is I live in America's Hometown and my girls have never been on the Mayflower. On of the things that we will do this year is explore close to home. We will see all the sites of Plymouth.

I am also thinking about taking them next summer to Santa's village and Story Land as we will be going to Disney in January.

I just thought of this last night, and wanted to share with anyone who's interested in this thread: there is a non profit organization, called Breathe NH that sells coupon books for activities in NH and New England. The book costs $25, and it has a ton of coupons for buy one, get one admissions. We get it just for the storyland coupon - we pay for DH and I, and our daughter gets in for free with the coupon - that pays for the cost of the coupon book. Any other coupons you use are gravy. And the money goes to a good cause.

But since you're looking at Clark's or Whale's Tale etc. it's worth checking out because there are coupons for those places too. You can check the website so you know exactly what coupons are in it, and what you'll use before you buy. I received mine within a week of ordering.

We love old sturbridge village, we go multiple times a year, its a lot of fun to go for their christmas celebration and also the halloween, the kids love it!

We have been going to both Storyland and Santa's Village for the past 6 years and my 4 kids (all under age 10) have always enjoyed both parks.
Santa's Village is really a special place' nothing can beat the Christmas theme, even in the middle of July.
North Conway is a fun place; you should have a good time up there - we have lots of great memories :)

Thanks for that link! I'm ordering the book definitely! We go to a lot of those places regularly.... Canobie Lake park is a must-do every summer.... we love Southwick's zoo.... so many great attractions in there! Thanks so much! :)

We went to Storyland 2 summers ago with our kids 14, 11, 7, 5 and 8 months.. We all had a good time - even the older kids... I had been to Story Land as a child and it was fun to return... I miss New England!

Just as an FYI, I was at Storyland on Saturday. Weather was awesome! Not much new this year. The food is about the same except they are now doing combo meals - basically if you buy a burger and fries you get your drink cheaper. They also have expensive refillable mugs. They are cute - kind of like Disney mugs. I think they were $7.99 and you could refill for $0.99 cents as many times as you want. I didn't buy one but my sister in law bought for my niece. Pizza is still very mediocre. My advice is to bring a picnic with you or leave the park at lunch time and go to the Dairy Queen! Or up the road to Kringles for subs.

There were no rides that had restrictions on height as far as a maximum height.

The Breathe NH coupon booklet can be a decent deal. There is also the White Mountains Attraction Association - they sell a more expensive pass ($295) that includes two free admissions to each of the member attractions. It can be a good deal if you are going to visit alot of them. The web site with prices for each attraction is:

I think Storyland would be fine for the 9 year old. I brought my neice (whos 9) last year and theres quite a bit of stuff there for kids her age. Have fun, it's soooo beautiful here.
