I am so mad. While I was at my daughter's soccer practice my purse was taken right out of my car. My car was less than 50 yards from me and I was stupid and left the sunroof open.

What a mess this is. I have called all credit card companies and put a fraud alert on my credit report. I have been unable to put an alert on my kids social security. I carried a small piece of paper with their socials on it. It didn't say what the numbers were but it wouldn't take a genius to figure it out.

I have already ordered a new driver's license, of course I had to use my parents credit card because all of ours are stopped.

What a headache!!!!!!!!

Anyone have any advise I would appreciate it. Right now I am going to have a glass of wine and try to chill.

A glass of wine and a bubble bath.

:grouphug: So sorry this happened to you. You seem to have handled it a lot better than I would have.

I am handling it better today. It just makes me mad because I was careless and because people take things from others as if they are intitled to.

Sorry this happened but you have to be more careful. A gal I know had her car broken into while it was parked in her garage and her purse was stolen. She always left it in the car because she knew where it was.

I'm rather lucky because I speak a second language and until I memorized my son's SS # I had it written down in the 2nd language I spoke. No one would even guess that those were numbers since I wrote it out as a sentence.

Secondly, I never carry anything but my debit card & my Visa on me. We got rid of all but 2 of our credit cards because we didn't want to deal with this if it happened.

You might have to do a credit check on all of your kids in the next few months to make sure no one has opened up a line of credit in their name and destroy their credit. I also strongly suggest identity theft insurance. I wouldn't live without it. We pay $12.95 a month and it's worth every penny.

It is sad you cant get away from scum of the earth, even at a kids soccer event. Best wishes.

That stinks!

I stopped to get gas last week, and noticed my Amex wasn't in my wallet. I called my husband right away, so he could call Amex and report it. Would you believe that while he was on the phone with the Amex rep, a charge came through for the gas station I was at when I called him? It must've fallen out of my wallet when I was in buying a soda. Someone had the onions to use it right there to fill their tank - $87!

Wow.

OP, so sorry. I hate that people think it's ok to take something that isn't theirs.

An Auto Alarm maybe!!!
We invested in an Alarm for our Caravan. All you have to do is bump it and it goes off.;)

Sorry to hear about that. I've had my purse and wallet stolen twice. It's a total pain and so violating. Once from my swim locker back in highschool (very stupid on my part since I didn't bring a lock. They also stole my clothes! And second, from my car when I accidently left it on my seat and my sister didn't lock her door when we got out at Taco Bell). Both of these events happened years ago before all this identity theft got big. Luckily I never carried my social sec card or number with me. But I know how creepy it feels knowing someone has all your info and personal items.

My sister just recently lost her wallet (it was left in a shopping cart at walmart). She went back within 15 minutes of realizing it was gone and it was, of course, stolen at this point. In the time it took her to go back to Walmart and then drive home (about 30 minutes) someone had charged 2 full tanks of gas on her creditcard. I think they called up a friend to meet them at the gas station! Anyhow, her 1 yr olds social security card was also in the wallet. She called S.S. to report it stolen and they told her there was nothing they could do. She asked for them to issue out a new number, esecially since he basically just got it being a baby and all, but they said they don't do that. She was told that she'll have to moniter his card number basically forever. Nice. Hopefully they're really stupid and won't figure out the numbers.
Good luck to you. :goodvibes

Sorry this happened to you. But also thanks for the reminder. I typically leave my purse in the car when I run DD into school in the morning. I think I need to stop doing that.

Just curious why do so many of you carry your kids socials around with you? I do have social security cards for each of my DD's but they stay at home. Really the only time I can think that I have needed their numbers are for taxes, insurance, and school. When I need the number I just pull out their card and fill out the form and put the card away. Totally not slamming anyone in any way just curious why you would need to have your kids social with you at all times.
