My six-month old granddaughter has just started crawling all over and now she is pulling herself up to stand in the crib. She kneels and then pulls herself up, but has taken some big falls. How do we protect her from banging her head on the crib bars? We have bumpers on the crib, but she is still hitting the bars. I figure in a few weeks she will figure out how to let herself down easily, but in the meantime, we're afraid she will get hurt.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated..

I don't remember doing anything special at all when mine started pulling up on the crib rail. When they fell, it wasn't too far of a fall, and even if they bumped the side slats I don't think there were any tears over it.

On another note, I do remember being told to take the bumper pads out when they could pull up. So, you might actually want to remove them, not add to them.

Yes, we will probably remove the bumpers. She uses them to pull herself up. She is so little to be standing up, she is pretty shaky...we will have to teach her to ease herself back down..

Thank you.

DD could walk at 7 months. She didn't climb out of bed until she was around 1.5. Our bed converts to a toddler bed, so that is what we did when she started climbing.
