I have flown on Southwest to Orlando (2 hr flight) and was happy with their service. Has anyone flown on their airline long distance? I have to buy a ticket last minute to California (2 (3hr) flights) and I was wondering about amenities. Are there movies on board or meals like other airlines? TIA! :hourglass

Short answer to both questions... no.

Southwest doesn't have a video system on any of its planes. No meals either. On short flights, you'll get a small bag of peanuts or other snack. On flights over 2 hours, you'll get a snack pack. If you need food, I'd suggest picking up something and carrying it on the plane with you.

You'll need to bring your own food and entertanment, but I find it's still worth it to fly SW on long flights when I can. I'd rather bring a book than pay the price difference to get an airline with a movie. As someone with special needs regarding food, I'm actually more relaxed with SW - too many other airlines have messed up my requests. Heck, I even had a flight attendant GIVE my meal to a person in the row ahead of me because they asked about a special meal AFTER boarding. If I hadn't overheard, I would have been out of luck as that was the last special meal available! Within the scope of what's available, SW attendants are more likely to be helpful, in my experience. Friendlier, too.....

Where on the east coast are you flying from? From NYC, you can fly non-stop on Jet Blue or Song into several CA cities. Both have TV, movies and snacks. I don't know what rates you will get on short notice, but it's worth checking into them.
