Well, it looks like this year is not starting out a whole hell of a lot better than last year ended. I just found out that my dear friend, Bee, who I've chatted with online for years, passed away on Thursday. I just heard today. Her sister was getting the word out, but didn't do it on the email address I have for her. Luckily, a mutual friend forwarded it to me. That's the downside of virtual friendships. I offered a few times to meet her in Real Life, but she always balked. I think she thought that people drifted apart after meeting for real...

I've tried leaving a message on her phone, but I don't know if anyone will be checking her answering machine. For all I know, her memorial service is today (she wanted to be cremated). I'm just sitting here, in shock, not quite believing that she and I won't be virtually watching "Desperate Housewives" together tonight, and that she'll never make that next move on Lexulous, and that I will never bounce my work headaches off of her level shoulders. She just retired about a year ago, and totally loved being retired.

Aw, man, this sucks.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Hopefully, things will be looking up soon!

{{{Hugs}}} So sorry to hear this, Tobi.

I have made some of my very best friendships online and then transferred them over to "the real world."

Tobi, I count my "virtual friends" (most of whom I have met) as some of my best. I grieve for your loss.

Thank you, all. Well, at least someone finally replied to my post on her facebook wall, and gave me her brother's cell phone number. So I now have more details of what happened (she went to bed, feeling ill, and died in her sleep of a heart attack) and know that her memorial service is not until Saturday, so I *can* make it. I definitely count her as one of my best friends (I heard from her more frequently than my good friend who lives 5 miles away!) and I will miss her dearly. I'm glad I at least get to go to the memorial service, and say a proper "Goodbye" to her...

So sorry to hear about your friend! I hope attending the memorial service will give you some much needed closure.

Stay strong!
