Ot==snow day tomorrow!!!

We are off tomorrow, too!
Finally attacked some more Xmas decor...but kinda lost steam after hearing no school tomorrow:confused3
Maybe game night tonight...Blokus anyone?

Soo......:rolleyes1

All you teachers out there - have you been doing the snow dance? Turn your jammies inside out and dance? And you must sleep with a spoon under your pillow. Those things will guarantee a snow day! :dance3:

I am fairly certain the blizzard warning will do it for us!

Your post made me chuckle...my 3 boys got off the bus this afternoon and talked about the spoon under the pillow and jammie trick:thumbsup2 They also mentioned flushing an ice cube down the toilet and putting a red crayon in the freezer:confused3 Whatever it take I guess! It hasn't started yet....

turning our jammies inside out is our "snow day dance" too!!!

If mention snow it will shut down the city. I live in the South we run hide if snows. It does not take much shut down the whole city.

I am in a suburb of Milwaukee, and I can't understand why they haven't cancelled school for tomorrow!!! Why can't they EVER do this early??????

We're in a suburb of Milw too but I thought I heard we're only getting 1-3 overnight because of Lake Michigan. I'm hoping your information is right. I wouldn't mind a snow day since our school system has 5 built in days that the kids don't have to make up days:thumbsup2

Well, Im frustrated. Every school district in our area except for 3 have cancled. I want to know if ours cancels so I know wether the daycare is going to need me!

Ooooh, reading this makes me soooo glad I don't live in the path of the storm! It's cold enough in NE Ohio!

I feel really bad for one of the districts in our area because they called off school but are making teachers report! Evil District 66!

Hey, neighbor!! We always feel bad for those Westside teachers, too!!! I mean seriously, if the rest of the world can't get out to work and school, how are their teachers supposed to magically get there?

We are having so much fun with our snow days. Gingerbread houses, cookies, playing in the snow. Surfing the Dis...getting ready for our last minute preparations for WDW, leaving in 18 days!!

I'm sorry you won't have much warning, it really is nice to be able to plan ahead.

We got canceled for tomorrow at about 3:30 today. It's that bad here.

We were supposed to get "the big storm" last night and today. Last night it was unseasonably warm (usually our nights have been in the low 20s and high teens), but last night is was warm from the clouds so all we got was rain & sleet this morning. Hard sleet, rain and 50 mph wind gusts for about 5 minutes at 5:00am. Then the temps dropped 12 degrees in about 10 minutes and everything froze. The winds stayed. We ended up with a 2 hour delay, but no snow. The sun was shining by the time I went to work.

My DS was so excited that snow was coming. He slept with his window blinds open so he could see out of his window, and was very disappointed when he woke up to no snow. That's the 2nd "big storm" that has come and gone and left us with nothing but frigid air in it's path. Oh well!

That's how our school was too..they canceled not long after our kids got out of school, which for us is at 3:30..our district was one of the first 5 in our area to close

I'm in Buffalo and I'm really hoping and praying for a snow day tomorrow (but I doubt it). We might get one Thursday. I feel like crap and I might call in tomorrow. A snow day would be sweet. I wouldn't have to worry about scrambling for a sub, or cancelling my parent teacher conference tomorrow, or struggling with the decision... do I call in? Do I just force myself to get through the day?
Ugh.
Congrats to all of you who got a day off! I'm jealous!!

Checking in from Syracuse here - we are decidedly lacking in the white stuff so far this year! We just had the longest stretch of no-snow imagineable! Well, "measurable" snowfall at least. We did have a bit back in mid-October and a dusting here or there, but overall - haven't had to shovel yet!

I'm not getting my hopes up for a snow day, although I would LOVE it. :thumbsup2 It's funny though, early in the year I think snow days are easrier to come by. Later in the season...18 inches, no delay, no cancellations, no nothin', but early in the year the threat of snow sends people scrambling. It's really funny!

Those of you in the path of the storm, be ready. I am in Colorado Springs and we haven't had tons of snow, about 4 inches, but it is bitterly cold. It is currently -1 with a wind chill of -20. They say over night it will get to -11 with wind chills around -20. We had a snow day today, and are currently on a delay for the morning. We will see if it changes to a closing in the morning.

Hope everyone stays safe and warm.

Our schools and the three cities around us all have school closed. I really hope my boss dosent beg me to come in (as a sub).

I saw that too, there were a couple places that required the teachers to show!

So which district do you recommend teaching in? I'll be looking for a job in a year or two and wondering about personal experiences & the good/bad.

Well I only taught in OPS and it was in a very bad area so my opinions may be biased because of that. My first 3 years were fine as I had a great principal. My last years were hellish as the principal was a nightmare! She was finally removed mid-year last year but only after being there for 10 years!:scared1: I would personally look at OPS last out of the districts. Their upper administration is very poor IMO. So much money wasted and many schools downright neglected. When I was looking to purchase a house I refused to look in the OPS district because there was NO way I wanted my kids to go to OPS schools. My kids attend the Gretna schools and I volunteer in their school a lot. The teachers seem very happy and very supported there. It seems like a very nice environment to teach in and it is growing a lot so hiring new teachers every year! I have had friends teach in Millard, Papillion/La Vista, and District 66 (except for no snow days!) and they have been happy there. HTH!

West Michigan....the BEST place to be during a BLIZZARD!!!:scared1:

We are experiencing freezing rain right now (puddled on the road) and the temps are going to drop into the teens in a few hours.

At 1pm, our blizzard warning kicks in....50 mph wind gusts and lake effect snow falling at a rate of up to 2" per hour:scared1::scared1::scared1:.

I work as a paramedic so I have no choice but to drive in this stuff. I have to work my normal shift today, from 2:30pm until 4:30am....right during the brunt of the storm. I just got home (an hour late) from my shift tonight because the roads are getting crappy. I really hope people aren't too stupid tonight. You would not believe how many people think that the ambulance can plow through anything:headache:. Um, no...we have the van-type trucks so it is really just like driving a really heavy 15-passenger van with rear-wheel drive. People call us all the time during a storm with minor "emergencies", and they tell us that they would drive themselves (or family member) but the roads are too bad. It is just as dangerous for us to be on the roads as anyone else.

I'll be saying a prayer for all those who MUST drive tonight because it is going to be nasty:sick:.
