OT- Sick Puppy

Hey Everyone- I don't post a lot, but I'm usually lurking........so I know many of you are pet lovers so you can sympathize with me. We just rescued a puppy from our local humane society and it started going downhill last night. Luckily we have a vet school close by and we took her in...turns out she has moderate to severe pneumonia and as of writing this she has not shown any improvement. Now, we're hoping that the antibiotics haven't had enough time to work yet, but I think some positive thoughts/prayers could certainly help. The kids have named her Zoe. We think she is about 4 months old and has had a pretty rough go at life so far as I think she was dumped by someone and spent quite a bit of time wandering alone.

Sending prayers. We went through a similar thing. Five days after we adopted our puppy from a local rescue, he came down with parvo. 5 days and $3000.00 later, he made a full recovery. He is now the light of our lives.
Hang in there. Hopefully a full recovery is right around the corner.

Aww, I'm so sorry to hear that. My dog is like a child to me and I would be devastated if anything happened to her.

My little fur baby spent some time alone on the streets too. It just breaks my heart to think of her all alone; she's extra spoiled for this reason.

It's so hard when our little fur babies are in trouble and we feel just too helpless.

We had hoped to have some better news last night, but her condition was relatively unchanged. She did eat a little yesterday and the fever went down about .5 degree over the course of the day. She was scheduled to get more antibiotics over the night so we are really hoping that this morning will bring better news. Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. I'll try to keep everyone posted.

Well, as I was typing the above..........my wife just called and said that the vet had just called with an update. Fever is down a bit more, but still not as much as they would like or expect. They got Zoe out for a walk and noticed that her paws/joints appeared swollen. Now as crazy as this sounds, that could be related to growing pains and attributing to the fever. The vet seems to think that she is going to be a larger dog and some large breeds actually get growing pains that will cause a fever and swelling. They need to take some x-rays to confirm that this is not some type of bone disease. Again, thank you and I'll try to keep everyone updated.

Just got some really good news...........Zoe can come home tonight. We will still have to keep her relatively calm for a couple of weeks but it appears she has turned the corner and is on her way to getting well. Thank you so much for your well wishes!!

Hi, I also had a sick fur baby this last week. I have had mine for a few years, though. My husband always tells me that the needy ones pick me out, everytime. I am hoping that all goes well with your puppy. They add so much to a family.
