I'm always looking for recipes that I can make and give as gifts to my friends. Here's one of my favorites:

Hot Buttered Rum Gift Basket -

1 Basket
1 Holiday cloth napkin/fabric to line the basket
2 Holiday Coffee Mugs
1 bottle of Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum
Hot Buttered Rum Mix (Frozen - warning it's addicting!)

1/2 gallon premium vanilla ice cream, softened
1 pound butter, softened (no substitute)
1 (1-pound) box powdered sugar
1 (1-pound) box dark brown sugar

Combine all ingredients and mix well. Place in a freezer-safe container and store in freezer until ready to use.

8 thin orange wedges

Hot Spiced Cider
1997

Ingredients

6 cups fresh apple cider
1/4 cup pure maple syrup (more or less, to taste)
2 cinnamon sticks
6 whole cloves
6 whole allspice berries
6 strips orange peel
6 strips lemon peel

Directions

Pour the apple cider and maple syrup into a large stainless steel saucepan. Place the cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice berries, orange peel and lemon peel in the center of a washed square of cheesecloth; fold up the sides of the cheesecloth to enclose the bundle, then tie it up with a length of kitchen string. Drop the spice bundle into the cider mixture.

Place the saucepan over moderate heat for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cider is very hot but not boiling.

Remove the cider from the heat. Discard the spice bundle. Ladle the cider into big cups or mugs, adding a fresh cinnamon stick to each serving, if you like.

or you could combine as you like

Another favorite is chocolate dipped spoons and hot chocolate mix placed in a Christmas mug wrapped with cellophane and ribbon.

10-15 mini-marshmallows
1 small candy cane

Snowman Soup Tag

Was told you’ve been real good this year.
Always glad to hear it!
With freezing weather drawing near,
You’ll need to warm the spirit.

So here’s a little Snowman Soup
Complete with stirring stick.
Add hot water, sip it slow.
It’s sure to do the trick!

J&D... last year my co-worker and I bought cute seasonal mugs (at the dollar store) and made snowman soup mugs for our staff. It was a BIG hit!

Are any of the other mixes as easy as the snowman soup one?

Thank you!!
Ginny

Here's another very easy one, Ginny.

I buy the old fashioned creme drops that are sold this time of year and make bags of reindeer poop. You can buy the creme drops at Wal-Mart for $1.00/bag. I put the creme drops in small treat bags and attach a cute tag that says:

I talked to Santa and here's the scoop, all you get for Christmas is reindeer poop!

If you prefer, you can use marshmallows to make snowman poop.

You had me going for a minute there! I was thinking hey I just talked to her and I didn't hear anything abut grandkids -- how'd that happen?

I'm glad you started this post Denise -- I decided to make a couple gift baskets for Christmas this year and was going to do bath/body stuff but goodies sounds better to me!

Thanks for the great recipes everybody! I'll have a hard time picking which ones to use.

For what I'm not sure,, I hope you weren't giving me credit for all of J&D hard work.. (Sorry bad joke ,I just might end up with that reindeer poop)  :jester:

EEEEEEEEK.......I misread the post...I thought the reindeer poop was from J&D and the snowman poop was from Sweetpea. Please...no poop for Sweetpea!! Sorry about that!!!!

As an apology, here's one of the only "holiday snack" recipes that I know how to make. We call it "Puppy Chow" but it's also called "Muddy Buddies".

9 cups of Chex (any variety)
1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter
1 bag (6 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar

Put the cereal into a large bowl.

Microwave peanut butter, chocolate chips and margarine in 1-quart microwavable bowl uncovered on High about 1 minute or until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla.

Pour mixture over cereal. Stir to coat. Pour into a 2-gallon plastic food-storage bag (or you can use a CLEAN garbage bag...it's alot more fun that way!!). Dump in the powdered sugar and shake.

Store in an airtight container, in the fridge. Makes 9 cups of yummy chocolate, peanut, crunchy goodness!!
