OT..Salmonella from infant formula????

Has anyone ever heard of an infant getting salmonella? And if so, have you ever heard that it may come from contaminated infant formula? One of my client's baby has salmonella and she is very meticulous and clean when it comes to her baby. Really puzzled at how he might have been exposed.

My DS had salmonella when he was 8 or 9 months old. The source was never identified 100% but the drs at Childrens Hosp. in Philadelphia said it could have been food. The other possibility was that he grabbed himself and then put his hands in his mouth during a diaper change. I was always careful when changing him but babies are fast. It was very scary as he lost a 1/4 of his body weight in 2-3 days. I kept him hydrated and it just had to run its course.

I had mono when about a year old and my mom was picky about germs. Best she figured was it came from a grocery cart so that could be a possiblity.

I think of salmonella as a poultry / egg food issue. I was surprised when i googled it --there are several cases of salmonella traced to powdered infant formulat because it is not sterile.

Also--kids handling turtles and other reptiles should wash hands well with soap because of risk.
