OT: Prayers for my sister

:grouphug: Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us updated on the outcome. :grouphug:

My thoughts are with you.

Although people think of leukemia / myelodysplasia first, which are rather scary, there are also a number of less scary things that it could be, and some of those are treatable or go away by themselves (like ITP). Best wishes that you get good news as soon as possible.

At midnight they called her and had her report to the ICU immediately. Her platelet count was down to about a 1000. It should be more in the hundreds of thousands!
They've been doing tests today and have been waiting for the hematologist to show up this evening. They did rule out leukemia by doing a blood marrow test, but think it may be a blood disorder involving the spleen. At this point however, they are going to treat her with steroids until they have a definite answer.
This definitely comes at a bad time here at the holidays, and does put a strain on her family. If you guys would remember us we'd really appreciate it.

Big Dis :grouphug: prayers and a ton of Pixie Dust :wizard: ~*~**~*~***~***~****~****~***~***~**~***~*~**~***~***~*******~***~******~****~**~*****~****~****~****~ coming your way momie!!!

So, is anyone willing to create a special picture or text picture (like I mentioned in my previous post) that we can use to show Momie our support? Maybe like a smiley or something happy with her name and "you are in our thoughts/prayers" or something like that. I have no idea how to make anything like that or else I would do it. I know some of you know how to make logos and such, and I think it would be cool. I could probaby come up with something using MS paint, but it would look tacky. I do not own any good graphics software.

I know if I was going through hard times like these, I would be uplifted by seeing a special recognition on my DIS friends' sigs or avatars.

Anyone with me? I know it's not much in the way of help, but it would show her we are thinking about her and praying for her!

I did talk to my mom earlier and she said that her count was back up to 14,000 this morning, so hopefully they can hurry up and find out what it is and let her out. I know how boring it can be up there!

Now that's cute. I'll have to see if I can get it to work when I get home tonight.:)

I talked with my mom earlier, and they told my sister if she keeps doing okay and her platelet count gets up to about 20,000, they'll let her go home. However, they haven't found out what she has. They've ruled out leukemia, lupus, and said her liver and spleen 'feel' okay. But, like I told my mom earlier, we're such an 'asymptomatic' family maybe they should look a bit closer! They have told my sister that she can't travel for now, at least not over 35 miles anyway, and she can't do much at home. Yeah like that will happen during the holidays.:)
Hopefully some of her tests may come back and tell them something.
Kim

Glad you've heard some encouraging news -- hoping for continued recovery!

Awwww, so sorry! Your sister and family are in our prayers. Many hugs and lots of hope!

We just got home from visiting my sister in the hospital. She finally got moved to a regular room today, and says that they are supposed to let her go home tomorrow. Her platelets were back up to 57,000 this afternoon, and now she is on steroids to help them along. They still haven't really determined what she has, but maybe a form of something called ITP. My mom has looked it up, but all I can remember is it is some form of a blood problem. (got to remember to look it up on my own):) She will have to go to a local cancer center to have them check it regularly for her. However, she does have some kind of warning system in the bruises that popped up all at once. So hopefully that will be a clue for any future problems.
My mom and brother went and did her Christmas shopping for her the other night, so she doesn't have to worry about that luckily.:) Lucky gal!;) Our pastor was kidding her on getting out of shopping this year.:)

One side note here: Our daughter was born with birth defects and has spent many long days in the hospital over the years, and many hours in the doctors' offices. We saw a very mature side of her tonight after we left. I heard her sniffling behind us, and we asked what was wrong. Though she hadn't shown any sign of tears while in my sister's room this evening, she now was upset. She told us that she was feeling guilty because her aunt was in the hospital and not her! Wow, your kids will really shock you sometimes.;) The kid is really growing up.:)

Hope everyone has fun playing VMK tonight,
Kim

:sunny: Wow. How old is she? That was a very unselfish, sweet thing to say. I would have cried if my daughter said something like that. Sound likes she is, and will grow up to be even more of, a wonderful person! :sunny:
