OT -Portland, Maine

"The drive to Manchester is long, boring, and heavily trafficked"

60 minute FLIGHT to JFK and needing to arrive 1 hour before flight time, plus a one hour layover at JFK equals 3 hours to fly versus 2 hours to drive.

Presumably your 2 hours to Manchester includes half an hour to park and get to the terminal. However, you're not including the same 1 hour to arrive before your flight time at Manchester. So if JFK connection requires 3 hours, by your reckoning, Portland to Manchester in a car requires 3 hours as well. Plus the gas and tolls. That's fine if the trade-off is good for you; it's not for me. I'm leaving PWM at 7:10 am and arriving MCO 11:50, no hassles on I-95.

I am located 30 minutes south of Portland Maine. We are flying Southwest out of Manchester, NH on December 1st direct to Orlando Int'l for under $200 each.

We chose not to use Alegient, b/c we wanted to use Magical Express and Disney doesn't provide it out of Sanford.

We got our tickets directly from southwest.com.

Good luck!

Huh? You can get nonstop, cheaper flights into DULLES, but you don't want to drive the 30 minutes longer that it is than Baltimore?

You'd rather take connecting flights to Baltimore and risk missing a connection etc? Connecting flights to Baltimore take a lot longer than the 30-minutes-longer drive to Dulles!

Am I missing something here???????

Fortunately for us we have never missed a connection in all of the years that we have been flying. We have to take a connection every time that we fly out of our local airport.

And yes, I would rather risk it than take the 30 minute or so longer drive.

Being able to get non-stop flights to MCO from Manchester make it worth the 1 1/2 hr drive for us. Why can't Jet Blue have a n/s flight? Delta used to fly nonstops to MCO from Portland, back when more jets flew from here. Now many of the flights are puddle jumpers.

I almost agree with avoiding Dulles. I live inside the Beltway but traffic is bad enough that I cannot get to Dulles without a 2 hour drive M-F 5:30am-10:30am and 2:30pm-7:30pm.

Anyway why not drive to the Philly airport and fly to Machester? It can't be much more of a drive than BWI.

It's about the same to drive to Philly for us, but we are trying to get into Portland on a cheap flight. I guess it's just not existant.
