OT: Politics and the Dis

OK... NOW I'm riled. Here goes.

I'm from a state that's across-the-board PIE people.

Man, these freaks get my dander up.

I'm a CAKE guy stuck in PIE country!!! Half the country voting PIE, half voting CAKE, and the other half Undecided!!

What's that?? As American as Apple PIE-CAKE?!? Who can live with such insanity?!?!?!?

Apple Pie-Cake

“You should make this every day of my life,” said Katie our 13-year old daughter. We're glad that she likes this cross between a cake and pie and we can make it often because it is so easy. Because it uses canned pie filling and takes just a few steps, it's a snap to make.
We couldn't decide whether this was a cake masquerading as a pie or a pie masquerading as a cake so we called it a “Pie-Cake”. You can serve this as a coffeecake for brunch or with ice cream or whipped cream as a dessert.
Apple Pie-Cake
2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup sugar
1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 21-ounce can of apple pie filling
1 1/2 tablespoon turbinado sugar for sprinkling on top
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
1. In a medium bowl, beat the eggs, vanilla, and sugar together until smooth and thick—about one minute.
2. In another bowl, mix the dry ingredients. Add them to the egg mixture and stir until well combined.
3. Stir in the pie filling.
4. Pour the mixture into a well-greased, nine-inch deep dish pie pan. Sprinkle the turbinado sugar on top and bake for 20 minutes or until browned and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
Serving suggestion: This is one of those desserts that is much better served warm. Heat individual servings in the microwave.

I love how we go so way off topic. :rotfl2: Recipe sounds good. I'm going to make that this week. Thanks. Who knew that you could read a thread about political rants and get an apple pie/cake recipe.

We (people on the DIS I mean) can’t even agree on what the best value resort is, what the heck makes you think we will agree on something like politics!

OK...you've stumped me on what the implied euphemism might be, which is saying something... :) . :confused3

:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

If I had the power, Jenn, I'd Cake-Tag you!!

'nuff said?

OK, now, let's not get political!! ;) All I meant was an innocent play on what SHE had said about wanting to have a "Cake tag" from the Tag Fairy. There was NO euphemistic intent other than "tag" as in "hit," as one might do to the face of another with a banana cream pie or even with cake!

Any non-family-friendly secondary interpretation should be ignored.

At least in this case... ;) I am not wholly responsible for any subtle double entendre made in chat... :rolleyes1

I love it when men fight over me.....:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Jason - I have classified you as harmless (a smarty pants, but harmless).

Don - You are good peeps!

Now, does anyone have any cake? I'm hungry, again......

OMG - I am so making this when I get home

Unless someone is going off-topic in a thread, why so bothered by someone mentioning their political views? Best unplug everything and stay indoors for the next few months. ;)

Go Obama!

I agree that going off topic in a thread is not appropriate but if the OP was implying that expressing political beliefs in signatures is inappropriate or discussing politics in general is inappropriate I completely disagree (just take a look at my signature).

People forget that the democratic-republic system of governance we enjoy in this country was an experiment. An experiment most people at the time thought would fail. However, our founding fathers felt that the government should be "of the people, by the people and for the people".

Democracy only works when you have a well informed populace that is willing to have open and free debate on the merits of policy. Political beliefs are not mere opinions, they are the wellspring upon which freedom, justice and liberty are born. My opinion is that pie is better than cake. My belief that all men and women are created equal is more than opinion, it is the foundation upon which my rational thought is based.

One of my pet peeves is people that think politics shouldn't be discussed in polite company. They are missing the most fundamental aspect of what makes democracy work.

I will end with a quote by Thomas Jefferson, "If once the people become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, Judges and Governors, shall all become wolves. It seems to be the law of our general nature, in spite of individual exceptions."
