OT PEI Questions

Thanks Zarvgirl! I honestly haven't been to the beach in a while, so I really wasn't sure, and my sisters who go buy the season pass. I am thinking I'll do that this year, and then maybe I'll get there a few times!

I came up with another question....it could go for NS or PEI though...

Do you know of any good deals on Whale watching tours? Have you done this ever?

We're taking the kids to NS for summer vacay this year and are planning to spend some time on PEI....my questions are how much time I should add to our touring plan?

We're going to take the kids to Green Gables, Charlotte town and possibly to summerside. There are probably alot of things I'm missing and if you can think of any must do's while there please let me know.

I was thinking 2 nights there (1 full day and 2 half days) but am not sure if this is too much time or not enough. We only have 2 weeks to spend in NS - 5 days with the inlaws, 7 days in a cottage on the beach near antigonish and that leaves just 2 days un planned for.

Any help would be fantastic!

I'm from NS but PEI is the place I most feel at home!

If you're heading to the island from Antigonish, you'll want to take the ferry, not the bridge. The pre-arranged boarding time is definitely worth the extra money if you do. We usually try to get the ferry so that we are eating a meal while doing the crossing.

If you do go to Summerside, we recommend the shows at the College of Piping, as well as the Wyatt Houses -- nice museums and great kids programs.

One thing you'll love about PEI (since you live in Alberta) is that it takes almost no time to cross the island. We stay in a cottage in Hampton, right on the beach -- the water is so warm it's like a bath in July. When the tide goes out you can walk for a mile on the sandbars.

Thanks for the tips. we're heading to the island from amherst and landing in antigonish after our island trip. I didn't know you could get a pre arranged boarding time! I will definately have take a look at that.. I am excited to see summerside as I have heard great things. I am still trying to fathom how that works with the crossing the whole island in less than a day lol....it takes forever to get anywhere here...damn praries lol.

It definitely takes some getting used to, even for people from NS.

So you can take the bridge to PEI (no payment to get on the island and we love the shops at Gateway Village), from which you'll be a short hop to Summerside. From either the bridge or Summerside, it's maybe an hour to Cavendish (stopping for ice cream along the way). From the bridge to Charlottetown is about an hour, maybe. I always assume it will take me at least an hour to get from Charlottetown to the ferry, because somehow I always end up behind a slow moving farm vehicle. :rotfl:

It used to be that everyone took the bridge (when it was first built) but many people are taking the ferry again. So the pre-arranged boarding pass is definitely worth it -- it can save more than an hour of waiting.

Antigonish is not too far from where the ferry lands at Pictou, so you won't really even have to stop along the way.

So how do I go about arranging a preboarding time? I thought the bridge was a toll bridge lol...you've got a great touring schedule there Thanks!

Well we live on Vancouver Island and we have to pay to get off and get on our Island at a cost that is more than twice the cost of the PEI ferry! I love the PEI ferry and wish ours was as economical.
