I know this is a crazy question, but I figure someone will know the answer.Should we use the pack of glaze that comes with the Paula Dean ham or not? We really wanted a Honeybaked Ham,but the price was just to high even with a coupon and I got this Paula Dean ham fro $17.00 off by price matching at Wal Mart.We had it once before and didn't use the glaze and was just wondering if it's better with it or without.Don't want to ruin the ham by using it if it's not very good. Most of us don't like a glaze except the one on the Honeybaked but it was just to much money to spend this year on a ham.Any help would be great.Thanks.

I didn't like it when I tried it a few months ago but I don't like glazes in general

I used the glaze on the one I bought after Christmas for under $10 (really!) and thought it was good and pretty typical of the ones that come with spiral sliced hams.

I just used the glaze that was included with my grocery store brand ham. It was fine! If you are worried about the seasonings in yours, check the ingredients. Mine had a kind of honey-cinnamon vibe going--perfectly OK in my book.

My uncle refuses to pay the price for a Honeybaked Ham so instead buys a spiral sliced ham, covers the entire ham in a whole box of brown sugar (rubs it in) and then squeezes an entire bear of honey over the thing and bakes it. It's better than a Honeybaked Ham. Yep, I just said that! HAHA!! Hope that helps!

I like that simplified measuring: one box of sugar, one bear of honey! So cute!

Boars Head makes a glaze that they sell in the deli at Publix, it's a mustard brown sugar one, very good. I had been using it with the Boars Head Sweet Slice ham but balked at paying $35-$40 for a ham, so I have used it on both the Smithfield (non Paula Deen) and also the Publix brand semi boneless and it's wonderful ~$3.50 a jar too!
