Hi all,

We are still waiting to able to go on an ABD. In the meantime, my husband has a scientific conference in Southern France, and is taking me to Paris and Nice on his way there! We already have plane tickets, and we'll be sending 4 nights in Paris, and 3 in Nice. I am completely overwhelmed as to finding hotels and tickets to attractions/tours. We can't do an escorted tour, because we can't be flexible with the dates. Anyone recommend a good travel site or agency that can assist me with this? We are going in September. Thanks in advance!

PS I bought the Rick Steve's France book, but still feeling somewhat lost....

If you are planning to go to the museums and other tourist sites in Paris, you can get a multi-day (or 1 day) Museum Pass online. Also, you can get a multi-day metro/transportation pass as well. We did this prior to our recent Viking Cruise in Paris and it worked out very well.

With the Museum Pass you bypass the normal lines to get into the Louvre and go through a designated entry, which was a blessing the day we went.

Cannes is one of our favorite locations. What do you want to do there? Swim/rest, do sightseeing, or a little of both? If you want to do a lot of sightseeing, you will need to rent a car. There isn't a lot you can walk to in Cannes, except for fabulous restaurants and great shopping. As far as touristy jaunts, there are perfume factories in Mougins, Monte Carlo, charming hill villages (many, each with a different character), glass blowing, Nice (similar to Cannes, but with a GREAT flower/food market), and more. I would be more than happy to help you out. What kind of hotel do you want? Rooms in Europe tend to be small, even in luxury hotels. Cannes is filled with little hotels and large, 5 star ones. Tell me a little about what you are looking for. You will love it!

If you want to go to the top of the Eiffel Tower, you ***must*** get tickets (14 Euros) in advance for a particular time and date available at:

http://www.eiffel-tower.com/

If you buy tickets at the tower, you will wait in as line that extends all the way to London!

I also recomend the restaurants in the tower. My family and I ate lunch at 58 Tour Eiffel and found it excellent for 19 Euros per person.

We decided to pass on the 12 Euro glass of champange at the summit and the Jules Verne restaurant for 200 Euros for dinner.

Hi, when we were in Nice a few years ago we stayed at the Hotel Negresco-great hotel, centrally located to everything & right on the Promenade des Anglais. Make sure you take a stroll here and stare at the gorgeous Med. Also, make sure you head into the Old Town of Nice-great restaurants, shops, etc-the concierge at whatever hotel you stay at will be able to give directions/make recommendations to you.

In Paris, we stayed at the Hotel du Louvre-again centrally located, walking distance to everything & right across the street from the Louvre. Make sure to take in the museums, Notre Dame & Sainte Chappelle are must dos. Paris is a very walkable city-just follow the Seine & you really can't get lost. There is a really yummy restaurant neat Notre Dame called Les Parves-we liked it so much we ate there 4 times over 2 visits to Paris:)

I could go on but I'm not sure how much detail you want-if you any questions feel free to ask. Have a great trip!!!!
