I'm sending DH to the final four and I'm trying to do it on a budget. Any north indy recommendations...ie safe area, easy on/off eway access. cheap eats nearby. TIA

Does she have to stay north? I can give you ideas for the Southside right off of I-65 / Southport exit. Really not any farther to LOS than the northside.
I think on the northside around I-69/82nd or 96th street there are plenty of hotels, not sure as I don't live on that side of town. Also on 31 going north to Carmel on US 31 or by Keystone at the Crossing. Not sure how much of a "budget" they would be though being on the "northside".

There are a couple on Michigan Rd (421) and I - 465 (big circle of an interstate that circles the city) on the Northwest side. There is a holiday Inn, Country Inn and Suites and a few others. You can then get downtown by going straight down Michigan Rd which would probably be a 20 min drive or so. There are plenty of fast food places and sit down chains in the area to choose from for food as well as a Target and drug stores should he need to pick up something.

He can stay in our basement~ :rotfl2:

Just kidding. DH would kill me. Can you imagine THAT conversation? (if your DH rolls his eyes as much as mine does at the DIS, you can.)

Since I live here, I haven't stayed in either of these but they both strike me as nice from the outside:

Hotel Indigo
9791 North by Northeast Boulevard
Fishers, IN 46037
(317) 558-4100

Drury Inn & Suites: Northeast
8180 North Shadeland Avenue, Indianapolis - (317) 849-8900

One is near 96th and the other is near 82nd, both of which abound with cheap eats. The Drury Inn is new within the last year or two. Oh yeah, and both have easy entrance to I-69. The Hotel Indigo is near Wal-Mart and there's a target not too far from the Drury Inn. Also, if your DH is anything like mine, The Hotel Indigo is very near Fry's. Tell him NOT to go to the restaurant directly across the street. It's not a Bennigan's anymore and I can't remember what it's called, but you can tell from looking at the building.

Being a southsider, I also recommend southside ;)

There is a Hampton Inn off 65 and Southport (this area has several restaurants and a Target/Meijer nearby) or a little further south on County Line and 65 is a new Hilton Garden. (This one close to a few restaurants and a Walmart)

BUT, my dh did do the plumbing work at the Hotel Indigo the above poster listed and said it was nice. (It's newer so that is always a bonus)

we were only thinking northside since he's coming from Michigan. I'm trying to get him to sleep in our van in a parking garage :rotfl: it's got tv, i can get the air mattress in it, he can take a cooler. he's not buying it. :lmao:

he's checking out the hotels you recomended. Thanks

LOL....if that's the case he can pay us $10 and park in our driveway to sleep. We are in a safe neighborhood about 15 minutes from downtown. :rotfl2:

We just stayed in Indy a couple of weeks ago and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express - Woodland Dr. We really liked it. It was very nice and reasonable.

I literally live two minutes from the intersection of I-69 and 96th Street on the northside of Indy, and there are a number of relatively inexpensive hotels nearby -- Drury Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Indigo, Hampton Inn, Country(something) Suites, Hilton, Omni, etc. Compared to other places, all of these hotels are relatively reasonable. The Drury is less than one year old and routinely advertises on its sign a $69 or $79 rate, although I don't know if such a rate is available during Final Four weekend.

Great area close to lots of restaurants and great shopping and easy highway access to downtown. Some of these hotels are in Fishers, IN (96th Street is the border between Indy and Fishers).

Wow. I wonder if you are the car down the street from me with the Mickey Moms sticker on the back of her car. :)

Do not stay at the Quality Inn in Southport. I had a terrible experience there!

Stayed another time at the Drury Inn off I-69 and loved it!

Nope, I have no outward manifestations of my love for Disney.

But, in all honesty, I would recommend anybody coming from Michigan for the Final Four stay in this area (that is I69/SR 37/96th Street -- sometimes known as the "Castleton" area) unless they want to pay the high prices for the nice hotels downtown.

not sure if its in your budget but we loved the embassy suites downtown. it was perfect for us to walk to the stadium.. we flew in though and took the bus from the airport... we loved our trip to Indy. I cant say enough nice things about that city. Next trip we would love to take the kids with us..

If he's coming in from Michigan, that probably means he'll be rooting for Michigan State....given that, perhaps we should find him a spot in the not so nice parts of town to stay in!!!! ;)

I hope the OP didn't mean for this year! When I've gone to Indy for the final 4 if you didn't have your reservations 6 months out you were staying 2 hours away, Unless things have changed in a few years. I wish them good luck but budget isn't what I would be thinking at this point. Budget or not they may be taking up the poster who offered their driveway! It could look very good vs a very long drive.

Your probably right, the OP may want to look at hotels in nearby Anderson, it is 30 minutes north of Indy right on 69. They have several budget hotels right off the highway and it is a very safe area. I had to stay there once when I forgot to make reservations for work while the 500 was going on.

I just checked Expedia and found 4 in north Indy (Carmel area) with availability checking in Saturday, checking out Monday

Red Roof Inn $100/night for business king

La Quinta $157/ night for 2 queens

Spring HIll Suites @260/night for King Studio.

Marten House Hotel $125/night for Standard with 2 doubles or standard king

I am generally an SEC (KY or TN) fan, but Michigan State has certainly played well the last few years. I hope they do well and that your DH has a good time.

Anderson......and it is a very safe area.

Being from Anderson, I just had to laugh at someone calling Anderson safe. It's not Gary or anything, but I would hardly call it safe (even the area you stayed at!) when compared to places closer to Indy like Fishers, Carmel, Nobletucky, Wesfield or Zionsville.

The area of Anderson with the hotels just of I-69 is safe. Just as safe as Indy.
