OT: Nighttime Potty training

My dd had this problem & it really isn't something they can control. She wore pull ups until she was 7 or 8. My son did well by the time he was 3, so you just never know. Each kid is different. I can remember wetting the bed, not sure how old I was but I know I could'nt control it. She will grow out of it.

and even wets through the Goodnight at least once a week. Dr. says we can try an alarm or medicate, but unless he is upset about it he will outgrow it.

When he was about 4 we tried the "cold turkey" thing and did have some successful mornings. One morning when he was dry I got all excited and said something like, "That's so great that you stayed dry!" He turned and just glared at me. He said, "You know I can't help it, right?" After that I felt so awful, and when he was wet again he went back into Goodnights. He takes care of everything himself, so except for the expense, it really is a "non" issue here.

As for changing the sheets in the middle of the night.. we keep his sleeping bag handy. If he gets wet he just changes, pulls out the sleeping bag and sleeps on the floor. Poor guy...

Good luck. DD was day trained at 3 and night by 3.5 with maybe 2 accidents ever. They are just all different.

Dd #1 - day and night at 3
ds #1 - day at 3, 7 at night
dd #2 - day at 2, 6 at night
dd #3 - day at 2, 5 at night
ds #2 - day at 2, still wears them at night at 5.

All depends on the child!

If she is indeed lazy and trying to avoid bedtime - definately don't push. If that is the case, then the nights will clear up the minute she wears pullups to a friends house for a sleepover and her friend says "you still wet the bed?" A power struggle about her own bodily functions is the last thing you want - you will not win since you can't possibly control it. So let it be, keep her in pullups, say nothing and do nothing - other than controlling her bedtime as much as you can and getting her out of bed in the mornings on whatever schedule your household needs. If she loses the "I don't have to go to bed until I want" and "I get to lay around in bed as long as I want" without it being at all about the pullups, she'll give up the pullups on her own.
