OT: New York, son not into it :(

OP, make him go! It's the greatest city in the world! I may be sliiiiightly biased:cool1:, but I too am a big believer in experiencing new things. How do you know if you'll like something if you don't try it? I think everyone needs to stand in Times Square, see a Broadway show, go on the Ferris wheel at Toys R Us, visit FAO, go to the Central Park Zoo/Carousel (Mary Poppins!), and see the "big whale" at the Museum of Natural History.
I do have to say-- book your hotel NOW! Easter weekend will be absolutely packed. Your hotel rates will probably be very high.

Get it in writing from him that he doesn't want to go to New York City, and then when he wants to go to New York University at $50,000+/year remind him what a scary, smelly, boring city it is

Oh, wait, that was my son. :headache:

Oh My!
He is missing out on a ONCE in a lifetime experience...the sights (no, not the smelly ones) the sounds...the lights, all the action, it is amazing (unless he is one NOT to like sensory stimulation:confused3) SO many wonderful, amazing places to see and visit....Oh the list is just too long to post.....I do not know why he feels this way, but sadly he is oh so wrong....I hope he will reconsider....
NYC is amazing to visit (now if you said moving there....:lmao:)
whichever way it goes, have a wonderful visit!

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Amazing School!!

I bet it would be cool to see the museum. He loved the movies! Thanks for the suggestion, I had forgotten about that.

The movie was filmed on a set so its not exactly like it was in the movie, just an FYI in case he expects it to be.

My 12 year old DD is in NYC right now with her aunts for Spring Break. We are from the Midwest. She is loving it, went to Natural History Museum yesterday and there was a spot to make a video and emailed it to us. She's loving the subway. Today they were to go to Ellis Island. She helped plan the trip so maybe that might help your's son's enthusiasm if he knew he could plan an activity or two.

You can rent bikes and ride them on a tour through Central Park. That was my favorite thing as a child. Also, there's the boat ride to the Statue of Liberty, the dinosaurs at the museum, and the Empire State Building (awesome at night)-there's TONS of things for an 11 year old to enjoy. He just doesn't know it yet!

You might have struck on something here. He is particular about many sensory things. I have even wondered if he had a touch of sensory integration disorder, not full blown, but he demonstrates some symptoms. He hates anything messy on his hands, certain odors will literally make him sick, he still doesn't like fireworks or loud music, and he's the pickiest eater of all time. I wonder if that's what's making him nervous about it?

Though, he enjoyed LA, and I think NYC looks better than LA! Talk about dangerous, noisy, and dirty!:)

50,000$/year WOW!!!:scared1:

Hope he gets a stellar job after graduation!:)
