Ok, I know this is off topic, but I need help in a hurry.

I teach children with physical disabilities (K - 2) and my students run the school store as part of our math program. We have a company who is going to build (and donate) two accessible store counters with storage. I had sent the measurements of the table height and width - we will be using two tables next to each other on wheels, but I forgot to measure the width of the wheelchair, so they know how much storage they can build in to the side.

We are leaving for Disney Sunday and the builder just called me today and said they want to get started on this. All my students are home for the summer, so I can't measure their wheelchairs. My DD has spina bifida but does not use a wheelchair, so I do not have any measurements to give them. Can anyone give me an idea of how wide an average size wheelchair is? I want two children in wheelchairs to be able to sit under each counter and then have a small storage cabinet built into the side. If I had more time I would go to a medical supply store to nmeasure a chair, but we are leaving for DISNEY on Sunday morning!

Here are pictures of my kids operating the school store. Right now we just use two tables with tablecloths covering them.

This is the ADA definition:
"common wheelchair does not exceed 30 inches in width and 48 inches in length"

That would be an adult size wheelchair and would include oversize ones. A more 'average' width would probably be closer to 24-27 inches.
I just measured my DD's wheelchair. It has a 14 inch wide seat - she is very slim; you could have 2nd graders with 14 inch seats. Her chair also has the wheels canted out a bit to make it easier to propel. That is common and does make the chair a bit wider. She also has rims (can't remember what they are called) for propelling the wheelchair. They add about an inch or 2 total. Her wheelchair is 25 inches wide at the widest point. Some of your kindergartners might have a narrower chair, but some of the older kids may be that wide.

It's hard to guess from pictures, but the little girl with the tray in your last picture ,might have a tray that is 24 inches wide (if she needs it to stay on).
