Okay I know this is the families thread, but all good parents have to have "alone time" every once in a while right??? ;) I have a quite a few things planned over the next year or so with the family, and my dh recently shared with me that he wanted to go somewhere "just us", and I totally agree!! :thumbsup2
Now I need to plan something that is:
-very budget friendly
-romantic
-relaxing
-a fairly short distance to travel ( I don't mind flying it can just up the price of the trip a little!) We live about 2 hours north of St. Louis.
-Summer is pretty well booked up for us so we'd probably need to go in the early fall.
Any places where you dis mom's and dad's like to go for a long weekend getaway?? I'm all ears...........................

I am not much help as I know little about your area but wanted to say that you really do not have to go "somewhere " to have a great get away. We live about 40 miles from a large city and one of the Mills outlet malls. We have done week-ends by just getting a room at a really nice hotel, and hanging out there. We eat, sleep or play when we want. We really enjoyed staying right next to the mills outlet one week-end. Took in all the entertainment stuff we never get to when we just go shopping. Bread and Breakfast places are nice for get a ways week-ends too.

I agree with the Bed and Breakfast recommendation. My DH and I generally escape from the kids a couple times a year to go to a B & B within an hour or two of our home. We get the inlaws to babysit and check in at the earliest time. Some times we pack a picnic dinner and champagne and just stay in the room-a good idea if you're on a low budget and really need some alone time with your DH. Other times we book a romantic dinner some place or just go get pizza and some good beer. It's nice to sleep without worrying about hearing "Mommy!Mommy!Mommy!" at 6:00 in the morning. :rotfl2: And, you have someone else making you coffee and breakfast. Whatever you decide, enjoy!

Bed and breakfast sounds nice!!! I had'nt thought of that. Maybe kind of pricey though? :confused3
Any other suggestions?? Like I said I am willing to fly somewhere, I just don't want to go ALL out b/c we are saving $ for a big family trip next fall, just where we can have a couple days in a nice place to ourselves.

I guarantee that a night or two in a B&B will be cheaper than plane tickets. Do a web search for any in an area you might be interested in. You could be surprised at how cheap some are. My DH and I took a much anticipated trip to New Orleans this spring for our first adult vacation in 4 years. We stayed 3 nights in a B&B on the edge of the Quarter and I believe it was around $165 a night which sounds outragiously expensive to me but was still less than the decent hotels in the area. When we go to B&B's around Lexington or central KY they usually run between $100 to $135 and that includes breakfast, history and, normally evening snacks and sometimes cocktails.

Bed & breakfast is a great idea. It can be expensive, but it doesn't have to be. Do a web search for B&B in your area and you can get a good idea how much it will put you back. Also check hotels that offer jacuzzi tubs in the room. Some of these will be about the same as a B&B in a historic house. You could also check if your state has an online visitor guide (like NY has the "I love NY" website). Dh and I will do this if we're looking for a weekend trip or daytrip.

VEGAS you can go cheap and do what ever pace you want .sleep all day in a nice room and walk around all night .

Lots of FREE stuff to do and you don't have to or LIKE gambleing to have a great time.

Okay so B&B's sound like an idea. Vegas sounds good too. I am not a gambler, but my husband loves to. I'm afraid that we'd get there and he'd take off for the casino :moped: Just like when we got out on ocassion and we both agree that I'll be the one to have a few drinks ( if we are driving of course) and HE ends up having all the fun :furious: I guess women are just meant to be the responsible ones :confused3
I kind of got off the subject  .............................................
How about somewhere down south like Myrtle Beach or something similar?? :confused3

What my DH and I do is get an overnight babysitter ie my dad, go to a nice dinner out and a movie. ( A date  ) Maybe the bookstore or walk the mall. Anything where we are together works for us. :cloud9: Sleep late the next morning before getting the kids around noon. Have fun. :wizard:

Luckily we have lots of family members who are able to watch the kids almost anytime we need them. :) and the kids are old enough now that I don't worry about them so much ( like when they were babies!).
We just want to get out of town for a little bit, and I've gotten a few ideas so far....................................
